Laminin alpha 5 (LAMA5) is a member of a large family of proteins that trimerise and then polymerise to form a central component of all basement membranes. Consequently, the protein plays an instrumental role in shaping the normal development of the kidney, skin, neural tube, lung and limb, and many other organs and tissues. AIM: Obstructive uropathy is a recognized complication in advanced cervical cancer. Urinary diversion is commonly used to bypass the obstruction and improve renal function. There are 3 case series reports describing benign epithelial inclusions in nodal sinuses of perinephric lymph nodes of pediatric patients. The majority of these inclusions were observed in perinephric lymph nodes removed during nephrectomies from pediatric patients with Wilms' tumors. We report 2 cases of benign renal tubular epithelial inclusions located in the perinephric hilar lymph nodes. One of our cases is, to our knowledge, the first case of benign renal epithelial inclusions reported in an adult patient.

PURPOSE: Limited studies suggest a relationship between scarring on renal scan and failure to resolve vesicoureteral reflux. We evaluated the impact of abnormal renal scans on early vesicoureteral reflux resolution.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The medical records and renal scans were reviewed of children diagnosed with primary reflux between 1988 and 2004. We defined an abnormal renal scan as renal scarring or relative renal function 40% or less. Reflux resolution was noted 1 and 2 years after diagnosis.

During the course of malignancies of nearly all tumor entities the urogenital organs are frequently influenced. The resulting disorders are subsumed under the term"urogenital symptoms". Especially with the goal of improving quality of life these symptoms have to be treated with respect. In addition further therapeutic measures, e.g. the application of a palliative chemotherapy, makes an unobstructed urinary excretion necessary. This article gives an overview of the indications for treating urogenital symptoms and contrasts different therapy concepts.

A 25-y-old man with horseshoe kidney was referred for diuretic-augmented renal scintigraphy. Single-detector dynamic posterior imaging was performed and revealed asymmetric retention of radiotracer in the left collecting system. Renal scintigraphy was repeated with a modified protocol. Dynamic imaging was performed this time using dual-detector acquisition of both anterior and posterior data. PURPOSE: Prenatal detection of obstructive uropathy is used widely and vesicoamniotic shunting is the accepted procedure in well-defined cases. We present outcomes of vesicoamniotic shunting in a consecutive series from a coordinated prenatal-postnatal treatment program.

PURPOSE: An unusual case of infantile myofibromatosis with spinal canal involvement is reported and the literature is reviewed.
PATIENT AND METHODS: A female neonate had bladder and bowel dysfunction and paresis of the lower extremities.
RESULTS: Intrapelvic and paravertebral masses with extension into the spinal canal were detected by imaging studies.
