Twenty-eight patients with an onset of nephrotic syndrome within 1 year were randomized to receive either ciclosporin and low-dose prednisone or high-dose prednisone alone. Proportions of T lymphocyte subsets and activated cells bearing receptors for transferrin, Il-2 and HLA-DR antigens were studied in 15 asymptomatic HBsAg carriers and 10 subjects with negative markers of hepatitis B virus infection. A human leukemia cell line, JK-T1, was established from the bone marrow of a 10-year-old boy with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. A 71-year-old man underwent left nephrectomy for metastasis from renal cell carcinoma (RCC) of the small intestine. In spite of post-operative therapy (interferon-alpha or interleukin-2), multiple lung metastases and intestinal hemorrhage by metastatic tumor of small intestine appeared 9 years after the operation. Haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is characterized by destruction of haematopoietic elements, and is associated with a variety of manifestations including immune abnormalities.
