Comparison of gait, functional activities, and patient-reported outcome measures in patients with knee osteoarthritis and healthy adults using 3D motion analysis and activity monitoring: an exploratory case-control analysis.

OBJECTIVE: To examine functional performance differences using kinematic and kinetic analysis between participants with and without knee osteoarthritis (OA) to determine which outcomes best characterize persons with and without knee OA. METHODS: Participants with unilateral moderate knee OA (Kellgren-Lawrence grades 2 or 3) and controls without knee pain were matched for age, gender, and body mass index. Primary outcomes included temporal parameters, joint rotations and moments, and ground reaction forces assessed via 3D motion capture during walking and ascending/descending stairs. Secondary

ACL-PCL and intercondylar notch impingement: magnetic resonance imaging of native and double-bundle ACL-reconstructed knees.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to: (1) define the relationship between the ACL and PCL in normal knees; (2) determine whether ACL-PCL impingement occurs in native knees; and (3) determine whether there is a difference in impingement between double-bundle reconstructed and native knees. METHODS: Eight subjects were identified (age 20-50; 6 females, 2 males). All were at least 1-year status postanatomic double-bundle ACL reconstruction (allograft; AM = 8 mm; PL = 7 mm) and had no history of injury or surgery to the contralateral knee. MRIs of both knees were performed with the knee at 0

Influencing factors of flexion contracture among patients with knee osteoarthritis: a multi-center retrospective cross-sectional study.

Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a chronic disease with a high prevalence and disability rate. Alterations in lower limb alignment and reduction in lower limb muscle strength are important factors in the progression of KOA. Although pain is the main reason for KOA patients to seek medical treatment, the presence or absence of joint deformity is one of the crucial factors influencing the prognosis and recurrence of the disease. Approximately half of KOA patients may become disabled due to the development of joint deformity. To investigate the prevalence, characteristics, and influencing factors of

Evaluation of Efficacy of Three-dimensional Stainless Steel Mini-Plates in the Treatment of Fractures of the Mandible: A Prospective Study.

INTRODUCTION: Disengagement of polyethylene insert used in total knee arthroplasty is a rare but serious complication. Still rarer is disengagement because of failure of tibial insert locking mechanism. We report a previously unpublished complication of polyethylene insert locking mechanism failure in a 10-months-old posterior stabilized total knee arthroplasty in a 70-year-old woman with osteoarthritis for whom Attune (Depuy) knee implant was used. CASE PRESENTATION: A 70-year-old female underwent (Attune, Depuy) primary bilateral posterior stabilised total knee arthroplasty in a private hos

What is the clinical and cost-effectiveness of surgery with Medial Opening wedge high TIbial Osteotomy compared with Non-surgical treatment (MOTION) in the management of osteoarthritis of the knee in patients younger than 60 years? : a protocol for a multicentre, randomized controlled trial.

AIMS: For patients aged < 60 years with symptomatic medial compartment knee osteoarthritis (OA), there is uncertainty regarding the most effective management (surgical or non-surgical). Surgical realignment with a high tibial osteotomy (HTO) can relieve pain and improve function, while also potentially avoiding or delaying a knee arthroplasty. However, HTO has never been compared with non-surgical treatment in this patient group. MOTION (Medial Opening wedge high TIbial Osteotomy compared with Non-surgical treatment) aims to determine the relative clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness

Medial meniscal repair in stable knees: Survival rate and risk factors for failure at a minimum of 5 years.

INTRODUCTION: The menisci play a major role in the protection of the knee against osteoarthritis. A medial meniscus (MM) tear occurring in a stable knee is more at risk of repair failure than a suture concomitant with reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament. HYPOTHESIS: The survival of MM sutures in stable knees depends on the type of lesion. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective study was carried out as part of the 2022 Francophone Arthroscopy Society's symposium, across 10 centers (Bordeaux-Mérignac, Caen, Lille, Lille Louvière, Lyon, Marseille, Toulouse, Saint-Étienne, Strasb

The Impact of Arthroscopy on Surgical Decision-Making and Outcomes in Osteoarthritis Patients Undergoing Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty.

Background and objective Although unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) is a minimally invasive procedure, its application is limited due to strict criteria related to indications. In clinical practice, the aid of procedures such as arthroscopy is occasionally required to determine the surgical indication and thereby improve prognosis. In light of this, this study aimed to evaluate the impact of intraoperative arthroscopy on surgical decision-making in osteoarthritis (OA) patients and the prognosis of patients undergoing UKA. Methodology The clinical records of patients diagnosed with knee

Non-operative treatment of unicompartmental osteoarthritis of the knee: a prospective randomized trial with two different braces-ankle-foot orthosis versus knee unloader brace.

BACKGROUND: The use of an unloader brace is a non-surgical treatment option for patients with medial osteoarthritis (OA). However, many patients do not adhere to brace treatment, because of skin irritation due to the pads at the level of the joint space and bad fit. A new concept to unload the medial compartment of the knee is a foot ankle brace with a lever arm pressing the thigh in valgus. The aim of this prospective randomized trial was to examine the outcomes of patients with medial OA after treatment with a conventional knee unloader brace (Unloader One®) and the new foot ankle orthosis (

Utilization of Blood Flow Restriction Therapy with a Former Triathlete After Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION AND PURPOSE: Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a common condition that limits function and reduces quality of life. Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a surgical procedure that replaces the joint surfaces to address anatomical changes due to knee OA. While TKA improves symptoms and function, postoperative impairments are common, including reduced quadriceps strength. Blood flow restriction (BFR) may be a viable option for patients following TKA, as it can improve strength with a minimal amount of joint loading compared to traditional strength training. The purpose of this case report is t

Autologous Conditioned Serum in Knee Osteoarthritis: A Systematic Review of Current Clinical Evidence.

Knee osteoarthritis (OA) significantly impacts global health, causing pain, disability, and socioeconomic burden. Traditional treatments often provide only temporary relief and can have adverse effects. Autologous conditioned serum (ACS) therapy, which enriches a patient's own blood with growth factors and anti-inflammatory cytokines, has emerged as a promising approach to manage knee OA, potentially offering pain reduction, improved function, and tissue regeneration. Following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, we searched databases such as
