Artificial Intelligence-Enabled Short-Term Ambulatory Monitoring ECG During Sinus Rhythm for Prediction of Hidden Atrial Fibrillation.

BACKGROUND: Screening of asymptomatic/occult atrial fibrillation (AF) remains challenging. This study aimed to use a deep learning model to predict hidden AF in patients who showed normal sinus rhythm (SR) during 24-h Holter monitoring. METHODS: This was a retrospective cohort study that enrolled 934 patients receiving 24-h ambulatory Holter monitoring. Of them, 640 patients (AF group) had the documented paroxysmal AF in the index Holter monitoring. The rest of 294 patients (Control group) did not have medical record of AF and the index Holter exam did not detect AF. A ConvNeXt model (1st sta

Precuneus-to-hippocampus connectivity links LTP-like plasticity to cognitive function in subjective cognitive decline and mild cognitive impairment.

BACKGROUND: Disruptions in synaptic plasticity and alterations in effective connectivity (EC) involving the hippocampus and amygdala are hallmarks of early Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, the interplay between these neurophysiological changes and their relationships with cognitive functions in subjective cognitive decline (SCD) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) remains poorly understood. METHODS: Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) were used to assess long-term potentiation (LTP)-like plasticity and EC involving the am

Optimal attention deep learning based in-vehicle intrusion detection and classification model on CAN messages.

Intrusion detection systems (IDS) have enormous significance to ensure the security of high-tech automobiles, especially those using the controller area network (CAN) bus for transmission between different electronic control units (ECUs). The CAN is a popular transmission protocol in automobiles, but it is vulnerable to a variety of attacks. To overcome these issues, several studies have investigated the use of IDS for the CAN bus. Researchers have been exploring safety issues of inter- and intra-vehicular transmission. In recent times, intrusion detection sensors are gained popularity despite

Diagnosis and classification of neuromuscular disorders using Bi-LSTM optimized with grey Wolf optimizer for EMG signals.

Hand recognition, the process of identifying or characterizing human hands in images or video streams, plays significant role in the biometrics, robotics, computer vision, and human-computer interaction. This technology relies on analyzing hand attributes such as shape, size, color, texture, and motion to perform tasks as gesture identification, hand tracking, and sign language interpretation. In particular, hand movement decoding from electromyography (EMG) signals has shown promise for understanding neuromuscular function and aiding in diagnosis and therapy for neuromuscular issues. Altered resting-state functional connectivity in individuals at risk for Alzheimer's disease: a longitudinal study.

BACKGROUND: Resting-state functional connectivity magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) is a sensitive tool for detecting early brain changes associated with Alzheimer's disease, even in its preclinical stages. Amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) and late-life depression (LLD) are two prevalent conditions in older adults that significantly elevate the risk of cognitive decline and dementia. This study aimed to elucidate the underlying neurobiological substrates by longitudinally identifying and comparing distinct connectivity patterns in aMCI subjects and LLD patients, and by examining th

Alpha 7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor contributes to long-term cognitive recovery following ischemic stroke.

Stroke is associated with autonomic dysfunction and reduced acetylcholine (ACh), a neurotransmitter critical for cognition. ACh signals in part through the alpha-7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7nAChR), a ligand-gated ion channel involved in synaptic plasticity, learning, and memory. Impaired α7nAChR signaling has been linked to heightened neuroinflammation and poor acute stroke recovery. Here, we investigated whether α7nAChR contributes to post-stroke cognitive recovery in young male mice. Wild-type (WT) and α7nAChR knockout (α7n0KO) mice underwent 60-min middle cerebral artery occlusion

LSTM and ResNet18 for optimized ambulance routing and traffic signal control in emergency situations.

Traffic congestion, particularly in rapidly expanding urban centers, significantly impacts the timely delivery of emergency medical services (EMS), where every minute can mean the difference between life and death. Traditional traffic signal control systems often lack real-time adaptability to prioritize emergency vehicles, resulting in delays caused by congestion around ambulances. To address this critical issue, this paper presents an AI-driven real-time traffic management system designed to reduce EMS response times. The proposed solution incorporates three core components: Raspberry Pi-bas

LSTM-Based Prediction of Human PK Profiles and Parameters for Intravenous Small Molecule Drugs Using ADME and Physicochemical Properties.

Accurate prediction of human pharmacokinetics (PK) for lead compounds is one of the critical determinants of successful drug development. Traditional methods for PK parameter prediction, such as in vitro to in vivo extrapolation and physiologically based pharmacokinetic modeling, often require extensive experimental data and time-consuming calibration of parameters. Machine learning (ML) has been widely applied to predict ADME and physicochemical properties (ADMEP descriptors), but studies focusing on concentration-time (C-t) profile prediction remain limited. In this study, we developed a Lon

Effects of Ketone Ester Supplementation on Cognition and Appetite in Individuals with and Without Metabolic syndrome: A Randomized Trial.

There are currently no non-pharmacological solutions to combat the appetite and cognitive dysfunctions associated with metabolic syndrome (MetS). Ketosis may be a potential solution, though the restrictive nature of dietary ketosis limits its long-term utility. Oral administration of exogenous ketone esters (KE) independently induces ketosis, eliciting hyperketonemia without the need for prolonged dietary restrictions. However, the acute effects of oral KEs on appetite and cognition have not been evaluated in individuals with MetS. For this randomized, single-blind, placebo-controlled, matched

Linking a Deep Learning Model for Concussion Classification with Reorganization of Large-Scale Brain Networks in Female Youth.

Concussion, or mild traumatic brain injury, is a significant public health challenge, with females experiencing high rates and prolonged symptoms. Reliable and objective tools for early diagnosis are critically needed, particularly in pediatric populations, where subjective symptom reporting can be inconsistent and neurodevelopmental factors may influence presentation. Five minutes of resting-state (RS) EEG data were collected from non-concussed and concussed females between 15 and 24 years of age. We first applied a deep learning approach to classify concussion directly from raw, RS electroen

Subtypes of cocaine use disorder and their neurobehavioral profiles.

Cocaine Use Disorder (CUD) afflicts over 1.4 million individuals in the United States alone. However, current treatments are largely ineffective, with up to 85% returning to use long-term. We posit that addressing functional heterogeneity underlying CUD is crucial for improving treatment success. Based on prior work, we hypothesized heterogeneity in function across three domains: approach-related behavior, executive function, and negative emotionality. We analyzed data from 109 participants (ages 22-39, 15% female, N = 61 CUD) from the SUDMEX CONN dataset. To test if distinct 'mechanism-based'

Second occurrence of the PAK3-R67C variation and multiscale analysis of the corresponding knock-in mice reveal novel phenotypic features and functional synaptic defects.

Variations in PAK3, a gene located on the X chromosome, are known to contribute to intellectual disability (ID) and are associated with a broad clinical spectrum. The correlation between genotype and phenotype in PAK3-related disorders remains incompletely understood. In this study, we focused on the PAK3-R67C variant, the most amino-terminal variation identified to date, which was initially associated with a non-syndromic form of X-linked ID. We describe the clinical picture of its second occurrence, and present additional clinical insights. Our findings indicate that the R67C mutation is ass

Efficacy of xanomeline and xanomeline trospium in the treatment of cognitive impairment: A systematic review of preclinical and clinical trials.

The high prevalence, persistence and clinical burden of cognitive impairment on health outcomes in persons with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder invites the need for innovative, mechanistically informed pharmacotherapeutic interventions. Evidence implicates dysregulation of muscarinic signalling as a mediator of cognitive dysfunction, identifying it as a potential therapeutic target. In accordance with the PRISMA guidelines, a systematic search was performed using the following electronic databases: PubMed, Medline, Cochrane Library, PsycInfo, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science.
