GLI1 fusions involving ACTB, MALAT1, PTCH1 and FOXO4 genes have been reported in a subset of malignant mesenchymal tumors with a characteristic nested epithelioid morphology and frequent S100 positivity. Typically, these multilobulated tumors consist of uniform epithelioid cells with bland nuclei and are organized into distinct nests and cords with conspicuously rich vasculature. We herein expand earlier findings by reporting a case of a 34-year-old female with an epithelioid mesenchymal tumor of the palate. The neoplastic cells stained positive for S100 protein and D2-40, whereas multiple oth

Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer and the leading cause of cancer-related death among females worldwide. Despite all therapeutic advances, metastatic breast cancer is still associated with a median overall survival of 3 years. Alongside this condition, bladder metastases of solid neoplasms are rarely observed. In this setting, the secondary bladder tumors with an origin in breast cancer occur in 2.5% of cases in some series. The authors report the case of a 68-year-old female with stage IV breast cancer (bone metastasis) treated with anastrozole, who presented with peripheral edema an

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is an extramedullary malignancy of myeloid origin. It can occur in any organ. Common sites are skin, bone, lymph nodes, and soft tissue. Central nervous system (CNS) involvement is very uncommon. We report 12 new pathology-confirmed cases of CNS MS with literature review. Median age was 42.5 years (range: 0 - 84 years). Bone marrow involvement by hematologic neoplasia was co-incidental (n = 8) or occurred 8 - 51 months prior to CNS MS (n = 3). Abnormal radiological findings detected in all patients, included hemorrhagic (n = 5) or enhancing (n = 2) lesions, with multiple r

Medullary carcinoma (MC) of the colon and rectum is a rare entity, accounting for less than 0.1% of colonic adenocarcinoma that poses a diagnostic challenge for the practicing pathologist. Poorly differentiated or undifferentiated MC with an unusual histological appearance and immunoprofile in addition to heavy lymphoid infiltrate could make it problematic when differentiating it from a high grade lymphoma, in particular anaplastic large B- or T-cell lymphoma, plasmablastic lymphoma, and other undifferentiated neoplasms. Here we reported a unique case of an 81 y/o woman presenting with a 7.0 c

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: Malignant solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) arising from the spinal cord are extremely rare and poorly understood mesenchymal neoplasms. To date, only one malignant SFT located in the spinal canal of the sacrum has been described, but none arising from the lumbar nerve root have been reported. Although most SFTs with benign histological features can be treated by complete surgical excision alone, malignant SFTs may require adjuvant therapy. However, systemic chemotherapy and radiotherapy have not been shown effective in patients with malignant SFTs.
PURPOSE: To describe a pat

BACKGROUND: Multiple-endocrine-neoplasia-type-1 (MEN1) is an autosomal-dominant inherited disorder characterized by the combined occurrence of primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT), gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP), adenomas of the pituitary gland (APA), adrenal cortical tumors (ADR) and other tumors. As the tumors appear in an unpredictable schedule, uncertainty about screening programs is persisting.
OBJECTIVE: To optimize screening and to analyze possible differences in sporadic versus familial cases.
METHODS: We analyzed data of 419 individuals including 306 MEN-1 patients

OBJECTIVE: A diagnosis of childhood cancer is profoundly devastating for families, with well-recognized effects on parental mental health. However, its impact on parental somatic health remains poorly understood, particularly regarding potential long-term cumulative burden. These persistent somatic diseases require frequent clinic visits for ongoing management and adversely affect parents' quality of life.
METHODS: Using several Swedish national registers, we identified biological parents of children diagnosed with cancer before age 14 between January 1, 1987, and December 31, 2016, and match

Primary malignant tumors of the aorta (PMTA) are rare, yet highly aggressive neoplasms associated with poor prognosis. The preoperative diagnosis of these tumors remains challenging, as conventional imaging modalities, including computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), frequently fail to distinguish PMTA from atherothrombotic lesions. This case highlighted the efficacy of multimodality imaging, particularly F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT), in diagnosing PMTA, such as aortic intimal angiosarcomas. Neuroendocrine prostate neoplasms, encompassing small cell carcinoma, carcinoid, and large cell carcinoma, are infrequently observed in malignant prostate tumors. The occurrence of large cell neuroendocrine prostate cancer (LCNEPC) is exceedingly rare. In this study, the patient initially presented with a persistent dysuria for a duration of one year, accompanied by a serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level of 17.83ng/mL. Prostate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and chest computed tomography (CT) scan showed that a neoplastic lesion was considered, and prostate biopsy confirmed prostate a

BACKGROUND: Glioblastoma multiforme represents approximately 60% of all brain tumors in adults. This malignancy shows a high level of biological and genetic heterogeneity associated with exceptional aggressiveness, leading to poor patient survival. One of the less common presentations is the appearance of primary multifocal lesions, which are linked with a worse prognosis. Among the multiple triggering factors in glioma progression, the administration of sex steroids and their analogs has been studied, but their role remains unclear to date.

INTRODUCTION: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is the viral agent responsible for the coronavirus disease of 2019. The disease is primarily a respiratory illness; however, multisystem involvement is not uncommon. The infection is reported to be more severe in patients with multiple comorbidities and immunocompromised patients. Patients with hematological malignancies are immunocompromised and prone to develop severe SARS-CoV-2 infection. The SARS-CoV-2 had developed several mutations that resulted in different strains with different virulence and different degree of

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Even though endoscopic submucosal dissection is an important endoscopic resection technique for gastrointestinal neoplasms, there are chances that postoperative esophageal stricture might take place as a side effect. Steroid applications were reported to be effective for the prevention of stricture formation. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of different steroid applications.
METHODS: Eligible studies published on PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Embase, Web of Science, and Chinese Biomedical Literature Database before August 2018 were reviewed.

Most cases of BCR-ABL1-negative myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs), essential thrombocythemia, polycythemia vera and primary myelofibrosis are associated with JAK2 (V617F) mutations. The outcomes of these cases are critically influenced by the transition from JAK2 (V617F) heterozygosity to homozygosity. Therefore, a technique providing an unbiased assessment of the critical allele burden, 50% JAK2 (V617F), is highly desirable. In this study, we present an approach to assess the JAK2 (V617F) burden from genomic DNA (gDNA) and complementary DNA (cDNA) using one-plus-one template references for

Infection with High Risk (HR) Human Papillomaviruses (HPVs) is the main aetiological agent of Cervical Squamous Cell Carcinoma (CSCC) and also associated in a subgroup of other neoplasms, including Oropharyngeal Squamous cell Carcinoma (OPSCC). HPV infection, in genital as in oral mucosa, can also be subclinical or associated with benign proliferative lesions (common warts, condylomas, papillomas) caused mostly by infection with Low Risk (LR)-HPVs. In the last decades, extensive research has resulted in growing knowledge on HPV biology and specifically viral life cycle, biochemical properties

Paragangliomas are relatively uncommon neoplasms that arise in adrenal and extra-adrenal paraganglia of the autonomic nervous system. Parasympathetic paraganglioma develop predominantly in the head and neck. It is exceedingly uncommon to develop a primary intraparathyroid paraganglioma. There is only a single case report in the English literature. The information from the single previous case report (Medline 1960-2009) was combined with this case report. Our patient was a 69 year old woman who presented with a thyroid gland mass, with extension into the substernal space. The patient had a hist

OBJECTIVE: Testicular microlithiasis (TM) is characterized on sonography by multiple microprecipitates in the testes. The correlation between TM and testicular malignancies is variable. The purpose of this study was to review our 10-year experience regarding the prevalence of TM and its association with testicular malignancies.
METHODS: This was a retrospective study in which 3254 testicular sonographic examinations over a 10-year period identified 137 patients with TM. Testicular microlithiasis was divided into 2 groups: classic TM (CTM; >or= 5 calcifications per image) and limited TM (<5 ca

In addition to T cell leukemias and lymphomas, human T cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1) infection has been associated with nonhematologic malignancies and described as the cause of one case of small-cell lung carcinoma. Infected primary epithelial cells have been isolated from sweat gland and oral mucosae of HTLV-1-infected human patients. In the present study, epithelial neoplasms developed in two rabbits experimentally infected with a molecular clone of HTLV-1 (strain K30p). Serologic detection of anti-HTLV-1 and isolation of virus from blood lymphocytes at multiple time points postinject
