A new dressing for chronic wounds, BioFilm hydrogel dressing, was compared to a hydrocolloid dressing (HCD) control in a clinical trial involving 90 patients and 129 Stage I and II wounds (defined by Enis and Sarmienti). A special stand with a fixed mercury tonometer has been designed providing an easy and convenient position of the patient's relaxed hand with the outstretched elbow joint on it for repeated measurements of blood pressure during bicycle ergometry. Taking the hand away neither deranges the position of the rider nor limits the intensive pedaling. The stand design is very simple, reliable and convenient to use. The optimal conditions for accurate measurements of the blood pressure during bicycle exercise are warranted.

Microneurographic recordings of muscle nerve sympathetic activity, which is governed by baroreceptors and involved in blood pressure regulation, were made in the peroneal nerve in 16 healthy volunteers during physiological bladder distension. Established drugs used in the treatment of hypertension have reduced stroke but have had disappointingly little impact on coronary artery disease and its complications. This could be due to inadequate falls in blood pressure (or excessive falls). We tested the method of estimating capillary pressure from venous pressure transients obtained after sudden venous clamping in a hydrodynamic model. The basic principles were confirmed in the model, but it was found that when occlusion was caused over a relatively wide distance or in a predistended vessel, capillary pressure was overrated. Transcutaneous oxygen pressure (TcPO2) measurements are studied to determine whether location, side of body, sex, and age affect the values at 23 different sites. Measurements were taken on 19 healthy volunteers on one side or the other of the body. Values were similar at all sites with the exception of the forehead, cheek, medial aspect of the leg, and the scapular region. In a previous study, we have demonstrated that voluntary muscular contractions of the ischiocavernosus muscles (IC) correlate with changes in intracavernous pressure and, therefore, with penile rigidity. We measured patellofemoral contact areas and pressures using pressure sensitive film in ten human cadaver knees exhibiting degenerative lesions of patellar cartilage. We studied a flexion range from 20 degrees to 90 degrees and compared contact pressures before and after capsular reconstructive procedures.
