[Assessment of the initial period of schizotypal disorder in childhood].

OBJECTIVE: To identify developmental features, the presence of hereditary burden, social adaptation, the structure of early psychopathological disorders in pediatric patients with schizotypal disorder (STD) and their relationship with the age of manifestation and the clinical structure of the disease. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study included 150 patients aged 7 to 16 years with a diagnosis of SD, of which 48 were female and 102 were male. Based on the age of onset of the first stable psychopathological disorders, at the stage preceding the diagnosis of SD, 5 groups of patients were identified

Overprotection and overcontrol in childhood: An evaluation on reliability and validity of 33-item expanded Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ-33), Chinese version.

Overprotection and overcontrol from parents or other family members, which are not rare in the Chinese culture, have been suggested to be traumatic experiences for some children. However, research on overprotection/overcontrol is much rarer in China compared with other childhood trauma subtypes. One of the possible reasons for this is the lack of easy and feasible screening tools. In this study, we therefore translated and validated a Chinese version of the 33-item Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ-33), which was expanded from the widely-used 28-item CTQ with an additional overprotection/ove

Using the big data approach to clarify the structure of restricted and repetitive behaviors across the most commonly used autism spectrum disorder measures.

BACKGROUND: Restricted and repetitive behaviors (RRB) in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) encompass several distinct domains. However, commonly used general ASD measures provide broad RRB scores rather than assessing separate RRB domains. The main objective of the current investigation was to conduct a psychometric evaluation of the ability of the Social Responsiveness Scale (SRS-2), the Social Communication Questionnaire (SCQ), the Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R) and the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) to capture different RRB constructs. METHODS: Exploratory Structur

The Four Factors of Mind Wandering Questionnaire: Content, Construct, and Clinical Validity.

Despite great interest in Mind Wandering, a fully validated questionnaire has been lacking. The Four Factors of Mind Wandering (4FMW) Questionnaire, presented here, meets this demand. First, 80 items were judged for content validity by two panels of experts. Those items that survived this content validity assessment were then tested using exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses on two independent samples of young adults. The 16 resulting items were shown to cluster into four factors (i.e., Failure in social interaction, Failure in interaction with objects, Unawareness, and Inattention). T

Development and validation of a new short form of the self-management ability questionnaire for patients with chronic periodontitis.

OBJECTIVES: To establish and validate a short form of the self-management ability questionnaire (SMAQ) for chronic periodontitis patients. METHODS: A total of 480 chronic periodontitis patients were recruited and divided randomly in into two groups: development group and validation group. The item reduction process of the SMAQ was based on item response theory (IRT) and classical test theory (CTT). The resulting short form of the SMAQ was then validated using exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), convergent validity, internal consistency and test-retest reliab

The Development of Preliminary HiTOP Internalizing Spectrum Scales.

As part of a broader project to create a comprehensive self-report measure for the Hierarchical Taxonomy of Psychopathology consortium, we developed preliminary scales to assess internalizing symptoms. The item pool was created in four steps: (a) clarifying the range of content to be assessed, (b) identifying target constructs to guide item writing, (c) developing formal definitions for each construct, and (d) writing multiple items for each construct. This yielded 430 items assessing 57 target constructs. Responses from a heterogeneous scale development sample (N = 1,870) were subjected to it

The Patient Mania Questionnaire (PMQ-9): a Brief Scale for Assessing and Monitoring Manic Symptoms.

BACKGROUND: Measurement-based care is an effective clinical strategy underutilized for bipolar disorder partly due to lacking a widely adopted patient-reported manic symptom measure. OBJECTIVE: To report development and psychometric properties of a brief patient-reported manic symptom measure. DESIGN: Secondary analysis of data collected in a randomized effectiveness trial comparing two treatments for 1004 primary care patients screening positive for bipolar disorder and/or PTSD. PARTICIPANTS: Two analytic samples included 114 participants with varied diagnoses and test-retest data, and 179

Validation of the 5-domain Niemann-Pick type C Clinical Severity Scale.

BACKGROUND: Niemann-Pick disease type C (NPC) is an ultra-rare, progressive, genetic disease leading to impaired lysosomal function and neurodegeneration causing serious morbidity and shortened life expectancy. The Niemann-Pick type C Clinical Severity Scale (NPCCSS) is a 17 domain, disease-specific, clinician-reported outcome measure of disease severity and progression. An abbreviated 5-domain NPCCSS scale has been developed (measuring Ambulation, Swallow, Cognition, Speech, and Fine Motor Skills) and the scale reliability has been established. Additional psychometric properties and meaningfu

ConNEcT: A Novel Network Approach for Investigating the Co-occurrence of Binary Psychopathological Symptoms Over Time.

Network analysis is an increasingly popular approach to study mental disorders in all their complexity. Multiple methods have been developed to extract networks from cross-sectional data, with these data being either continuous or binary. However, when it comes to time series data, most efforts have focused on continuous data. We therefore propose ConNEcT, a network approach for binary symptom data across time. ConNEcT allows to visualize and study the prevalence of different symptoms as well as their co-occurrence, measured by means of a contingency measure in one single network picture. ConN

Confirmatory evaluation of the bipolar depression rating scale (BDRS) in a large sample of female patients with bipolar depression.

OBJECTIVE: The Bipolar Depression Rating Scale (BDRS) is a structured rating scale designed to assess depressive and mixed symptoms in bipolar disorder (BD). Previous studies evaluating the scale have been performed on small samples or on patients in a depressive phase, but not on patients in a mixed or manic phase. This study evaluated the Persian version of the BDRS regarding its factor structure, reliability, and validity in a large sample of Iranian women with BD in a depressive or mixed/manic phase. METHODS: Three-hundred and one female BD inpatients completed the BDRS, the Beck Depressi

Validity, Reliability and Internal Consistency of Persian Versions of the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, the Traumatic Exposure Severity Scale and the Peritraumatic Dissociative Experiences Questionnaire.

The Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ), the Traumatic Exposure Severity Scale (TESS) and the Peritraumatic Dissociative Experiences Questionnaire (PDEQ) are questionnaires widely used in studies of trauma and dissociation. This study aimed to examine the validity of the Persian versions of these questionnaires among a total of 230 individuals from the cities of Kermanshah and Sarpol-e Zahab that had experienced 2017 Iran earthquake. Results from a confirmatory factor analysis did not support the original five-factor solution for the TESS. Two principal component analyses resulted in a four-c

The patient-rated tennis elbow evaluation questionnaire was successfully translated to Korean.

INTRODUCTION: Lateral epicondylitis is a common tendinopathy of the elbow. An adequately validated questionnaire is essential to compare the various treatment options, because there is still controversy regarding the best treatment for lateral epicondylitis. PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: The patient-rated tennis elbow evaluation (PRTEE) was introduced to measure the degree of symptoms and the limitation of function in these patients. This English questionnaire was previously translated into several languages and validated; however, it has not been translated into Korean. The aim of this study was to

The Clinician-Administered Dissociative States Scale (CADSS): Validation of the German Version.

The Clinician-Administered Dissociative States Scale (CADSS) is a structured clinical interview to assess state dissociation rated by clinicians. The current study aimed to validate the German version of CADSS by comparing it to the established self-report measures for dissociation and exploring its underlying factor structure. Severity of within-session state dissociation was assessed directly following a standard psychotherapy session in a trauma-exposed patient sample (N= 105; 81.9% female). Internal consistency, convergent validity with other dissociation measures, and the factorial struct

Classification and Regression Tree and Computer Adaptive Testing in Cardiac Rehabilitation: Instrument Validation Study.

BACKGROUND: There is a need for shorter-length assessments that capture patient questionnaire data while attaining high data quality without an undue response burden on patients. Computerized adaptive testing (CAT) and classification and regression tree (CART) methods have the potential to meet these needs and can offer attractive options to shorten questionnaire lengths. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to test whether CAT or CART was best suited to reduce the number of questionnaire items in multiple domains (eg, anxiety, depression, quality of life, and social support) used for a

Using Multiple Imputation with GEE with Non-monotone Missing Longitudinal Binary Outcomes.

This paper considers multiple imputation (MI) approaches for handling non-monotone missing longitudinal binary responses when estimating parameters of a marginal model using generalized estimating equations (GEE). GEE has been shown to yield consistent estimates of the regression parameters for a marginal model when data are missing completely at random (MCAR). However, when data are missing at random (MAR), the GEE estimates may not be consistent; the MI approaches proposed in this paper minimize bias under MAR. The first MI approach proposed is based on a multivariate normal distribution, bu

Validation of the Brazilian version of the Halitosis Associated Life-Quality Test (HALT).

The present study aimed to validate (cross-culturally adapt and test psychometric properties) the Brazilian version of the Halitosis Associated Life-Quality Test (HALT). A process of translation and cross-cultural adaptation was conducted by a group of dental researchers. The first draft of the Brazilian Portuguese version was pre-tested on a sample of 33 individuals leading up to the final version of the questionnaire. The Brazilian version of the HALT (B-HALT) was applied to 100 individuals with halitosis (organoleptic score ≥ 2) and 100 individuals without halitosis (organoleptic score < 2)

Health state utility values derived from EQ-5D in psoriatic patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: To determine pooled EQ-5D utility scores for psoriasis as a general condition, plaque psoriasis, and psoriatic arthritis. METHODS: A systematic review and meta-analysis of EQ-5D utility scores for psoriatic patients was conducted. Univariate meta-regression was used to explore the degree of heterogeneity. RESULTS: Seventy-five studies were included in the systematic review. The EQ-5D in psoriatic patients demonstrated decent convergent, known-groups validity, and a degree of responsiveness with a ceiling effect. Among the five EQ-5D dimensions, 'self-care' showed the lowest and '
