Kinetic Modeling of Microbial Inactivation in Juices Treated With Pulsed Electric Fields (PEF): A Comparative Study on Microbial Heterogeneity and Food Matrix Effects.

Pulsed electric field (PEF) processing is a promising technology for preserving fruit and vegetable juices. This research study evaluated the effect of pulsed electric fields (PEF) at 20 kV/cm on the microbial and quality parameters of pomegranate, tomato, and carrot juices. The inactivation kinetics of Escherichia coli strains (K12 and FAM 21843) and Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains (AD1890 and 130.0014) were fitted using a global model, which combined a log-linear primary model with a second-order polynomial. for describing the polyphasic inactivation kinetics. Maximum microbial inactivation…

Treating hippocampal neural stem cells with nano-pulsed laser therapy generates neurons resilient against amyloid-β oligomer toxicity.

BackgroundHippocampal synaptic dysfunction driven by toxic amyloid-β oligomers (AβO) is an early event in the progression of neurodegeneration and cognitive decline in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Non-invasive photobiomodulation therapy (PBM) is a promising intervention that has been shown to reduce amyloid and tau pathology, improve synaptic function, and preserve hippocampal neurogenesis in animal models of AD. Nano-pulsed laser therapy (NPLT) is a type of PBM therapy using pulsed 808 nm near-infrared laser light and optoacoustically generated ultrasound waves to stimulate deeper brain structur…

Synergistic Sensitization of Pancreatic Cancer Cells by Nanosecond Pulsed Electric Fields and Cold Atmospheric Plasma via Amplifying ROS and Apoptotic Signaling.

Pancreatic cancer remains a highly lethal malignancy, with standard therapies offering limited benefits in advanced stages; thus, novel strategies that exploit specific cancer cell vulnerabilities are urgently needed. Building on our previous findings that nanosecond pulsed electric fields (nsPEF) combined with cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) produce enhanced cytotoxicity, this study investigates the molecular mechanisms underlying this synergy. Pan02 pancreatic cancer cells were subjected to nsPEF, CAP, or a combination of both. We assessed cell viability, reactive oxygen species (ROS) producti…

Pulsed Field Ablation Versus Thermal Ablation for First-Time Pulmonary Vein Isolation in Atrial Fibrillation: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND: With over 60 million cases worldwide, atrial fibrillation (AF) is one of the most common cardiac arrhythmias in adults. Pulsed-field ablation (PFA) has emerged as a significant alternative to thermal ablation for pulmonary vein isolation (PVI). This systematic review and meta-analysis investigated the efficacy and safety of PFA versus thermal ablation in patients undergoing first-time PVI. METHODS: We systematically searched PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library from inception to 2025. Hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were derived from reconst…

Impact of left atrial posterior wall isolation using pulsed-field ablation in patients undergoing repeat catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation.

BACKGROUND: Durable pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) is the primary objective of catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation (AF). In repeat procedures, posterior wall isolation (PWI) is the primary adjunctive target, particularly with pulsed-field ablation (PFA), although evidence supporting its clinical benefit remains limited. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to compare procedural characteristics, safety, and efficacy of 2 ablation strategies in repeat AF ablation: redo PVI alone (PVI group) vs redo PVI with adjunctive PWI (PVI+ group). METHODS: Consecutive patients undergoing redo PVI at 2 centers…

High-frequency low-tidal-volume ventilation reduces loop catheter displacement during pulsed field ablation for pulmonary vein isolation.

Respiratory motion during pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) using pulsed field ablation (PFA) can compromise catheter stability and procedural precision. Although high-frequency, low-tidal-volume ventilation (HFLTV) has been proposed to reduce diaphragmatic excursion, quantitative data evaluating its effect on catheter tip displacement during PFA are limited. This retrospective observational study included 28 consecutive patients with atrial fibrillation (paroxysmal, n = 21; persistent, n = 7) who underwent PVI using PFA under general anesthesia. Catheter stability was quantitatively assessed by …

Effects of DRG pulsed radiofrequency parameters on the clinical outcome for battered sensory never syndrome: a prospective, triple-blind, randomized controlled trial.

Battered Sensory Never Syndrome (BSNS) is a condition characterized by persistent, long-term mechanical compression of the sensory roots, dorsal root ganglia (DRG), and sensory fibers of the spinal nerve roots. This leads to symptoms such as hyperalgesia or allodynia, paresthesia, and radicular pain-like syndromes where pain worsens with weight-bearing or physical activity. High-voltage DRG pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) is effective for BSNS, but optimal treatment parameters for the best clinical efficacy remain undefined. This study aims to compare the clinical outcomes of various PRF temperatu…

Ganglion Impar Neurolysis Enhances the Short-term Efficacy of Pudendal Nerve Pulsed Radiofrequency Treatment for Pudendal Neuralgia: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: Pudendal neuralgia (PN) lacks specific treatments and severely affects patients' quality of life. Although pudendal nerve pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) can alleviate symptoms, its overall efficacy is not satisfactory. Ganglion impar neurolysis (GIN) has been widely employed for perineal pain management. We hypothesize that combining PRF with GIN may enhance therapeutic outcomes for PN compared to PRF monotherapy. To the best of our knowledge, no relevant reports have been found. OBJECTIVE: To assess whether GIN improves PRF treatment efficacy for PN. STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective c…

Pulsed radiofrequency of lumbar dorsal root ganglion versus epidural neuroplasty for lumbar radicular pain: a systematic review and network meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Lumbar radicular pain (LRP) and/or lower back pain is a challenging condition, particularly in cases refractory to conservative treatments like epidural steroid injections (ESI). Pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) to the dorsal root ganglion and epidural neuroplasty techniques are emerging as alternative interventional treatments. However, there are no direct comparison studies between PRF and epidural neuroplasty, leading to uncertainty in optimal treatment selection. OBJECTIVE: This network meta-analysis (NMA) aims to indirectly compare the efficacy of PRF and epidural neuroplasty tech…
