The role of surgical margins as outcome metrics in a quality assurance program for robot-assisted radical prostatectomy.

BACKGROUND: Positive surgical margins (PSMs) serve as outcome metrics after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) and are frequently used in quality assurance programs (QAPs). Despite their central role as a quality indicator, the prognostic significance of PSMs remains debated, and limited research examines how clinicians actually interpret and use this metric within QAPs. This qualitative study explores how urologists collectively interpret and use PSM metrics within a regional prostate cancer QAP and considers the implications for quality improvement and clinical collaboration. Explainable machine learning for automated robotic surgical skill assessment using rich kinematic features.

Robotic-assisted surgery (RAS) extends minimally invasive surgery by restoring dexterity, tremor filtration, and ergonomic console control compared with open procedures and conventional laparoscopy. Objective, scalable skill assessment from console kinematics is therefore clinically relevant for competency-based training. Existing JIGSAWS studies often rely on random trial splits, isolated handcrafted features, or black-box models without subject-independent validation or transparent explanations. This study presents an explainable machine learning framework for automated skill classification

Robot-assisted total knee arthroplasty and the risk of postoperative infection: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Although robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty (R-TKA) enhances the accuracy of component alignment, its relationship with postoperative infection risk remains uncertain. This study systematically compares infection rates following R-TKA versus manual TKA (M-TKA). A systematic search of four bibliographic databases was undertaken to retrieve comparative studies that evaluated postoperative infection rates in patients undergoing R‑TKA versus M‑TKA. Eligible studies were required to report at least one infection‑related endpoint, including those explicitly reporting zero infection events. In

Autonomously Motile Nano-PROTACs Act as Protein-Sweeping Robots to Enhance Targeted Protein Degradation.

Although nanoparticle-based PROTACs (nPROs) provide a modular strategy to improve the biological fate of PROTACs, their degradation performance was fundamentally limited by restricted intracellular diffusivity. Here, we introduced an unconventional solution: Imparting autonomous motility to nPROs to transform them from passive carriers into active protein-seeking degraders. We engineered nano-motoring PROTACs (nMPROs) through asymmetric modification of gold nanoparticles, displaying POI ligands and E3 recruiters on one hemisphere while anchoring catalase on the opposite hemisphere. Within the

Robotic surgery for small bowel obstruction: a propensity score-matched analysis of the ACS-NSQIP database.

BACKGROUND: Robotic surgery (RS) has expanded across elective surgical disciplines, yet its role in emergency general surgery remains poorly defined. Small bowel obstruction (SBO) is one of the most common indications for emergency abdominal surgery, and while laparoscopic surgery (LS) has demonstrated advantages over open surgery (OS), in appropriately selected patients at experienced centers, no large-scale study has evaluated robotic outcomes for this condition, partly because dedicated robotic identification variables in national databases have only recently become available. This study ai

Artificial intelligence-assisted estimation of superior mesenteric artery dissection extent during robotic pancreatoduodenectomy.

BACKGROUND: Superior mesenteric artery (SMA) dissection is an important oncological and technical aspect of pancreatoduodenectomy, but its assessment remains subjective. This study evaluated the feasibility of an artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted approach to estimate SMA dissection extent during robotic pancreatoduodenectomy (RPD). METHODS: Intraoperative RPD videos (October 2019-July 2025) were used to develop and validate an AI-assisted anatomic recognition model. The model identified SMA-related structures and estimated circumferential SMA exposure as a continuous dissection score. Fou

Robotic RAMPS with 360° celiac axis skeletonization: a standardized vascular approach (technical note with video).

Radical antegrade modular pancreatosplenectomy (RAMPS) is an established technique for left-sided pancreatic cancer, increasingly performed using a robotic approach. However, vascular dissection at the level of the celiac axis and superior mesenteric artery (SMA) remains technically demanding, and standardized strategies are still lacking. We describe a robotic anterior RAMPS using early SMA exposure through a ligament of Treitz approach followed by systematic celiac axis dissection and circumferential (360°) arterial skeletonization. The technique is illustrated in a 65-year-old patient with
