OBJECTIVE: A few personality traits are characteristic of pathologic gamblers (PGs), but it is not clear if and how their personality profile differs from that of non-pathologic gamblers (non-PGs).
METHODS: Sixty-five non-clinical subjects, differentiated into non-PGs and PGs with the means of the South Oak Gambling Screen (SOGS) and Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-Fourth Edition-Text Revision (DSM-IV-TR) criteria, were administered with the Temperament and Character Inventory; their values were compared with those of control subjects (CS).

This study used latent growth modeling to investigate longitudinal relationships between self-system processes and depressive symptoms among maltreated (n = 142) and nonmaltreated children (n = 109) aged 6-11 years. Numerous studies have been conducted in which cases of parasuicide have been followed for repeat parasuicide. By comparison, there have been relatively few studies of other morbidity endpoints. Growing attention has focused on associations between religious involvement and health outcomes for cancer patients. Dental prosthetic treatment of children in the primary and mixed dentition years was planned with respect to the special conditions accompanying the absence of teeth. Besides the immediate functional and esthetic benefit of prosthetic therapy, the prosthetic appliance helps to maintain the oral functional status, which is considered necessary for undisturbed lower facial growth. Therefore, careful follow-up and thoughtful treatment decisions should be exercised, especially in cases where impairment of permanent dentition and supportive tissues complicate the prognosis.

Peer relationships, social skills, self-esteem, parental psychopathology, and family functioning of children with Tourette's disorder and a chronic disease control group of children with diabetes mellitus were compared. The psychosocial problems that develop in long-term survivors of Hodgkin's disease were examined in a cross-sectional survey of 403 patients. The average age at treatment was 27 years and at interview was 36 years. The median time since treatment was 9 years. Sixty percent of the patients were treated for stage I or II disease and 40% for stage III or IV. Eighty-two percent of the patients had never relapsed, and 98% were free of disease at the time of interview.
