Flexor tendon ruptures in rheumatoid arthritis are caused by either attrition on bone spurs or by direct invasion of the tendon by hypertrophic tenosynovium. All attrition ruptures occur within the carpal canal and represent the most common cause of tendon rupture. Removal of the causative bone spur is imperative in the treatment of this condition. Ruptures due to invasive tenosynovitis also are frequently found within the carpal canal. These ruptures may be unanticipated, and may be discovered as an incidental finding during flexor tenosynovectomy. Ruptures due to invasive tenosynovitis withi

Bilateral simultaneous and spontaneous patellar tendon ruptures are exceedingly rare. The diagnosis is established by clinical examination. Early diagnosis and surgical repair is essential to provide a satisfactory functional result. A case of patella tendon rupture on the right side and a fracture of the tuberositas tibiae on the other one after minor trauma in an 31-year-old woman with osteomalacia is presented. In case of spontaneous and bilateral tendon ruptures other diseases, especially generalized bone diseases, systemic lupus erythematodes, metabolic diseases and rheumatoid arthritis s

Techniques for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery have evolved from the traditional open procedures to arthroscopically assisted procedures. The rationale for arthroscopically assisted ACL reconstruction includes small incisions, no disruption of the extensor mechanism, shorter hospitalizations, reduced postoperative pain, and faster rehabilitation. A stepwise approach for ACL reconstructions is presented.

A 76-year-old man sustained attritional disruption of the extrinsic flexor tendons to the ulnar two fingers over 40 years after an untreated palmar lunate dislocation. Spontaneous flexor tendon rupture is rare without wrist joint pathology, even in the absence of chronic pain or median nerve compression.

Volar plate reconstruction by using a part of the slip of the superficialis tendon is a new technique in the treatment of posttraumatic and congenital swanneck deformity. This small series represents two patients with a posttraumatic swanneck deformity due to volar plate rupture and one patient with a congenital swanneck deformity in six fingers. The results of the operation with a two years follow-up show seven fingers with a normal flexion-extension range without hyperextension. Only one finger has an extension lag of five degrees. All fingers have a normal grip strength and normal fine move

Seventy-two cases with "Rotator interval" lesion of the shoulder operated during the past thirteen years were studied. Results are as follows; "Rotator interval" should be as loose as possible, though not so loose as to break the shoulder mechanism. This lesion is mainly found in young people; seventy percent of the subjects were less than thirty years old. The clinical features fall into two categories. One is contracture of the shoulder in older cases and the other is unstable shoulder in younger cases. This difference reflects the secondary change after injury. Conventional arthrography sho

Tendon lesions have been studied in 35 broiler or broiler breeder fowls. Tendon rupture most commonly affected the gastrocnemius and flexor muscles but was also seen in cranial tibial muscles (four cases) and the patellar tendon (one case). In nine birds tenosynovitis, characterised by a marked inflammatory response, was identified. In others, however, rupture occurred without appreciable inflammation and these cases were concluded to be comparable to spontaneous tendon rupture in other species. A traumatic aetiology is suggested in these cases, as other pelvic limb tendons or ligament rupture

This is a report of bilateral partial ruptures of the flexor carpi radialis tendons associated with trapezial osteoarthritis. Splinting for 4 weeks was curative. One of the tendons was exposed 4 months after rupture in conjunction with carpal tunnel release and the abnormal healed tendon was revealed.

Immediate mobilisation after flexor tendon suture produces a conflict between the muscle force and resistance of the sutures. Sutures within the tendon after repair are weak and need contrived measures (e.g. wrist and metacarpophalangeal flexion, rubber bands etc.) to prevent dehiscence, while pull-out sutures do not allow mobilisation because of their anchorage. A new technique is presented which consists of a simple slip-knot suture which transmits the tension generated by the muscle to the distal tendon stump and its bony insertion, allowing immediate mobilisation. Results in ninety eight c

Spontaneous avulsion of both quadriceps tendons occurred in a young woman who had been treated with corticosteroids for progressive severely deforming seronegative arthritis and recurring skin lesions clinically and histologically suggestive of cutaneous vasculitis and pyoderma gangrenosum. We postulate that recurrent minor trauma to tendons previously damaged by vasculitis and inhibition of tendon repair by oral corticosteroids were predisposing factors to the bilateral tendon avulsions.

Two cases of unusual snapping at the elbow are described. In both, the medial head of the triceps was found to be separated from the main muscle belly. During flexion of the elbow, the medial head dislocated over the medial epicondyle, producing a characteristic snapping phenomenon. Both cases were of long standing and had been asymptomatic for years. The first clinical symptoms were those of an ulnar neuropathy. In order to restore the normal position of the medial head of the triceps, its tendon was detached from the olecranon, passed under the central tendon and interlaced to it. The ulnar

Objective: To explore the methods and effects of wound repair and functional reconstruction of high-voltage electrical burns in wrists. Methods: From January 2009 to June 2016, 71 patients with high-voltage electrical burns in wrists were hospitalized, with 118 wrist wounds including 21 of type Ⅰ, 69 of type Ⅱ, 9 of type Ⅲ, and 19 of type Ⅳ. According to the wrist injuries, different surgical operations were performed. Forearm amputation was conducted in 20 wrists with necrosis in the distal end. On the basis of fasciotomy for decompression, early debridement was performed on the other 98 wris
