A red eye is a cardinal sign of ocular inflammation. Most cases are benign and can be managed by the primary care provider. The key is recognizing cases requiring ophthalmological consultation by differentiating between ciliary and conjunctival injection. Ciliary injection indicates inflammation of the cornea, iris, or ciliary body, whereas conjunctival injection mainly affects the posterior conjunctival blood vessels.

The prevalence of glaucoma in patients with intra- or extraocular inflammation is five to twenty percent. Interest in childhood sarcoidosis prompted the formation of an international registry in 1991. Over the next 5 years, 53 patients were registered by 23 physicians from 14 countries. We report a case of Fuchs' uveitic syndrome associated with toxoplasmic chorioretinis scars, and a positive Desmonts' coefficient. This allows us to emphasize ocular toxoplasmosis as a main association to be searched for clinically. In the cases in which this association is found, it would be warranted, if a high level of specific antitoxoplasmic antibodies is demonstrated in aqueous humor, to consider toxoplasmosis as one of the potential etiopathogenic factors of the Fuchs' uveitic syndrome.

Extraintestinal complications affect 25-30% of patients with ulcerative colitis. These extraintestinal disorders significantly contribute to morbidity and mortality of ulcerative colitis patients. Anterior ophthalmomyiasis is a rare condition in which a fly larva invades the globe, causing iridocyclitis and sometimes subluxation of the lens. The authors report on the results of cyclocryotherapy of the ciliary body applied in 79 eyes with secondary glaucoma of various etiology. In 40% of the cases regulation of intraocular pressure and freedom from pain were achieved during an eleven-month follow-up. The results were remarkably favorable in cases of neovascular glaucoma (regulation of IOP in 50%) and secondary glaucoma following iridocyclitis and intraocular hemorrhages, which usually have a very poor prognosis.
