Beliefs, knowledge, and behavior about cancer among urban Hispanic women.

As part of a cancer prevention program aimed at minority and disadvantaged urban women, cancer beliefs, knowledge, and behaviors were assessed among home-health attendants in the Bronx, N.Y. Information, was gathered from 876 Hispanic women who comprised 62% of the female home-attendant study population from whom data were collected (n = 1413). Of these women, 82% (n = 718) were Spanish speaking and 18% (n = 158) were English speaking as defined by their choice to complete the survey questionnaire in Spanish or English. As a whole, the population reported high levels of obtaining screening tes

Feasibility and acceptability of human papillomavirus self-sampling compared with clinician sampling in urban areas of western China: a cross-sectional survey.

INTRODUCTION: Cervical cancer, driven by persistent high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) infection, remains a global health challenge, especially in low- and middle-income areas such as western China. Despite the critical role of HPV testing in early detection, coverage in China remains low due to cultural, psychological, and other barriers. Self-collected urine and vaginal samples offer alternative methods for sample collection. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of detecting hrHPV and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 2 or worse (CIN2+) via urine and vagi

Urine human papillomavirus testing for cervical screening in a UK general screening population: a diagnostic test accuracy study.

BACKGROUND: Cervical screening uptake is decreasing in the UK, with only 67.5% of those eligible under 50 years old attending in 2022. Barriers include restricted access to screening appointments and poor acceptability of the speculum examination. Urine self-sampling is an alternative cervical screening method that has the potential to improve uptake. AIM: To determine the clinical performance and acceptability of human papillomavirus (HPV)-tested urine for cervical screening in a UK general screening population. DESIGN AND SETTING: Prospective, cross-sectional diagnostic test accuracy study

Comparing the performance of DeoxyriboNucleic Acid methylation analysis and cytology for detecting cervical (pre)cancer in women with high-risk human papillomavirus-positive status in a gynecologic outpatient population.

BACKGROUND: Primary screening for high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) with cytological triage for women with non-16/18 hrHPV-positive status has become popular in China. However, cytology relies on the subjective judgment of pathologists, leading to inconsistent clinical performance. METHODS: A total of 657 hrHPV-positive women aged 25-64 years were enrolled in this cross-sectional study. All participants underwent colposcopic biopsy after cytology triage, with cytology residual specimens undergoing DNA methylation testing. CIN2+ and CIN3+ sensitivity and specificity were compared between

Use of the mtrR Gene for Rapid Molecular Diagnosis of Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Identification of the Reduction of Susceptibility to Antibiotics in Endocervical Swabs.

BACKGROUND: Neisseria gonorrhoeae is one of the main etiological agents of sexually transmitted diseases. The asymptomatic course of the infection and its resistance to antibiotics can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease and infertility. OBJECTIVES: We developed a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test using the methyltetrahydrofolate homocysteine methyltransferase reductase (mtrR) gene to identify N. gonorrhoeae and detect reduced susceptibility to antibiotics. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We analysed 250 samples of endocervical exudate from infertile women with a negative diagnosis of N. gonorrhoea

Optimal Cervical Cancer Screening in Women Vaccinated Against Human Papillomavirus.

BACKGROUND: Current US cervical cancer screening guidelines do not differentiate recommendations based on a woman's human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination status. Changes to cervical cancer screening policies in HPV-vaccinated women should be evaluated. METHODS: We utilized an individual-based mathematical model of HPV and cervical cancer in US women to project the health benefits, costs, and harms associated with screening strategies in women vaccinated with the bivalent, quadrivalent, or nonavalent vaccine. Strategies varied by the primary screening test, including cytology, HPV, and combin
