Two cases of anaphylactoid reaction from hypersensitivity to celery are reported. The two patients were also allergic to ragweed and mugwort pollen. The RAST inhibition test suggested slight cross-allergenicity between celery and mugwort pollen. The common allergenic factor could have been the alpha-methylene gamma-butyrolactone group.

Immunochemically pure tetanus antitoxin obtained from enzyme-treated horse serum is less reactogenic and anaphylactogenic and possesses higher therapeutic properties than antitoxin purified by nonspecific physico-chemical methods and containing ballast antigens. Due to its increased persistence in the recipient's body, the immunochemically pure antitoxin induces passive immunity in considerably lower doses than the preparations purified by the method "Diaferm-3".

Hypersensitivity to hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) has been reported following occupational exposure. Diagnosis of sensitivity is usually made from clinical evaluation of symptomatology. An in vitro serologic assay for HDI sensitivity was developed by immunizing guinea pigs with HDI and with hexyl isocyanate (HMI). Animals injected intradermally with HMI produced hapten-specific antibodies whereas guinea pigs injected with HDI produced antibodies specific for larger determinants which included the HDI hapten. The larger determinants were assumed to be composed of portions of "self" molecules

A low molecular weight allergen fragment present in the pea dialysate fraction was purified by ion-exchange chromatography and gel filtration. The highly purified allergen fragment inhibits both antigen-indiced passive cutaneous anaphlaxix reactions in guinea-pigs sensitized with rabbit anti-pea extract sera and Prausnitz-Küstner reactions in non-allergic volunteers sensitized with the sera of patients sensitive to green peas. Preliminary analysis of the purified allergen fragment indicates that it is a glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 1800 +/- 250.
