Three pillars for digital health assessment in LMICs: a mini review of technology benchmarking, digital health literacy, and social media listening.

Digital health has emerged as a critical component of healthcare delivery in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), offering opportunities to strengthen access, monitoring, and engagement across diverse populations. However, existing evaluations often focus narrowly on technological functionality while overlooking broader contextual factors such as digital literacy and public discourse. This mini-review proposes an integrative framework for digital health assessment built around three complementary pillars: technology benchmarking, digital health literacy, and social media listening. Exploring the Influence of Oral Health on Pregnancy Outcomes: A Narrative Review: Oral Health and Pregnancy Outcomes.

Oral health significantly impacts overall health, with increasing evidence linking poor oral health to adverse pregnancy outcomes. Periodontal disease, a chronic gum condition, is associated with preterm birth, low birth weight, and preeclampsia. Systemic inflammation and bacterial translocation are proposed mechanisms connecting periodontal disease to pregnancy complications. Maternal immune responses may be impaired, increasing systemic inflammation, and triggering preterm labor. In addition, oral bacteria may reach the uterus, causing localized inflammation and poor outcomes. Intervention t

An integrated, multidisciplinary management team intervention to improve patient-centeredness, HIV, and maternal-child outcomes in Lesotho: formative research on participatory implementation strategies.

BACKGROUND: Reducing perinatal HIV transmission and optimizing maternal and child health (MCH) outcomes in high HIV prevalence settings is an urgent, but complex, priority. Extant interventions over-emphasize individual-level provider and patient behaviors, and neglect critical health systems-level changes. The 'Integrated Management Team to Improve Maternal-Child Outcomes (IMPROVE)' study implemented a three-part, patient-centered, health-systems-level intervention to improve MCH and HIV outcomes in Lesotho. Ensuring intervention fit within the health systems context is important, but often o…

Depressed mothers coming to primary care: maternal reports of problems with their children.

BACKGROUND: Studies of depressed mothers have generally been conducted in psychiatric settings with non-minority, middle-class women. Primary care has an increasing role in early detection and treatment, especially for the poor who have less access to specialized mental health services. Data on the relationship between maternal depression and problems in the offspring in a primary care context could help physicians to more effectively identify children in need of psychiatric help. METHODS: All mothers aged 25 to 55 from a systematic sample of consecutive adults (response rate, 80%) in an urba

The Association between Physical Environment and Externalising Problems in Typically Developing and Neurodiverse Children and Young People: A Narrative Review.

The physical environment is of critical importance to child development. Understanding how exposure to physical environmental domains such as greenspace, urbanicity, air pollution or noise affects aggressive behaviours in typical and neurodiverse children is of particular importance given the significant long-term impact of those problems. In this narrative review, we investigated the evidence for domains of the physical environment that may ameliorate or contribute to the display of aggressive behaviours. We have considered a broad range of study designs that include typically developing and

Testing the 4Rs and 2Ss Multiple Family Group intervention: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) is a major mental health concern and highly prevalent among children living in poverty-impacted communities. Despite that treatments for ODD are among the most effective, few children living in poverty receive these services due to substantial barriers to access, as well as difficulties in the uptake and sustained adoption of evidence-based practices (EBPs) in community settings. The purpose of this study is to examine implementation processes that impact uptake of an evidence-based practice for childhood ODD, and the impact of a Clinic Implement

Expanding the population coverage of evidence-based interventions with community health workers to save the lives of mothers and children: an analysis of potential global impact using the Lives Saved Tool (LiST).

BACKGROUND: Evidence has been accumulating that community health workers (CHWs) providing evidence-based interventions as part of community-based primary health care (CBPHC) can lead to reductions in maternal, neonatal and child mortality. However, investments to strengthen and scale-up CHW programs still remain modest. METHODS: We used the Lives Saved Tool (LiST) to estimate the number of maternal, neonatal and child deaths and stillbirths that could be prevented if 73 countries effectively scaled up the population coverage of 30 evidence-based interventions that CHWs can deliver in these hi
