Improvement in Vision Parameters for Participants Treated With Alternative Therapies in a 3-day Program.

CONTEXT: Eye conditions that are considered progressive and degenerative and for which the causation is generally poorly understood or not understood within conventional medicine can respond to natural therapeutic interventions that result in arrest and/or improvement of morbidity, with enhanced functional results. Because many of the treated conditions are age related, a delay of disease progression for 5 or even 10 y can mean an additional decade of independence for seniors. The 11 included ocular conditions are ordinarily considered incurable by any method except surgery and, even with surg

Surgical management and limb salvage outcomes in orthopedic trauma patients with concomitant popliteal artery injury: a single-center retrospective analysis.

BACKGROUND: Traumatic popliteal artery injury often occurs with complex orthopedic and soft-tissue damage and requires coordinated vascular, skeletal, decompressive, and wound management. We evaluated real-world treatment patterns and limb-salvage outcomes in a single-center cohort of patients with combined orthopedic trauma and popliteal artery injury. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 48 hospitalization records from 46 patients treated between 2002 and 2025. Repeated hospitalizations related to the same injury were reconciled into 46 independent patient/injury episodes. The primary outco

Advantages of combining multiple eye-tracking paradigms for distinguishing young autistic from non-autistic children.

BACKGROUND: Single-paradigm, single-measure eye-tracking protocols have demonstrated utility in distinguishing between autistic and non-autistic children although effect sizes and reproducibility vary. There is a need for brief, scalable digital behavioral biomarkers that integrate complementary information from multiple eye-tracking paradigms and achieve improved accuracy in combination. METHODS: 74 autistic and 63 non-autistic children aged 24-72 months performed five different eye-tracking paradigms (facial emotion processing, gaze-following, dynamic social versus geometric patterns, socia

The Halo Vest Immobilization for Craniocervical Junction Tuberculosis: A Comparison of Treatment Options.

OBJECTIVE: The treatment of tuberculosis at the craniovertebral junction (CVJ) remains challenging, with significant debate surrounding therapeutic approaches. Halo vest (HV) therapy provides a non-invasive immobilization alternative, while occipitocervical fusion (OCF) offers a surgical option. However, limited evidence exists comparing the efficacy of HV therapy with OCF for CVJ tuberculosis. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes and safety of HV immobilization in treating CVJ tuberculosis, compared with OCF. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study was conducted from January 2

Modulation of the hepatic RANK-RANKL-OPG axis by combined C5 and CD14 inhibition in a long-term polytrauma model.

BACKGROUND: Polytrauma and hemorrhagic shock can lead to direct and indirect liver damage involving intricate pathophysiologic mechanisms. While hepatic function has been frequently highlighted, there is minimal research on how the receptor activator of the NF-κB (RANK)/RANK ligand (RANKL)/osteoprotegerin (OPG) system is regulated in the liver following trauma. Furthermore, cross-talking complement and toll-like-receptor (TLR) systems can contribute to the posttraumatic response. Therefore, we investigated the hepatic consequences of polytrauma focusing on the RANK-RANKL-OPG axis, and evaluate

Fibula allograft in complex three-part and four-part proximal humeral fractures in active patients, a matched case-control study.

BACKGROUND: About 20% of proximal humerus fractures (PHFs) are unstable and/or markedly displaced and therefore require surgery. Locking plate fixation after anatomical reduction has become the current treatment of choice for these fractures in the active population. However, studies have shown complication rates up to 36%, such as loss of reduction and avascular necrosis. To date, data from literature are inconclusive on outcomes following the use of an intramedullary fibula allograft in PHFs, possibly due to the case mix. It is hypothesized that the use of a fibula allograft is beneficial to

Hemiarthroplasty for proximal humerus fractures and for fracture sequelae: did not differ in their outcomes.

BACKGROUND: The role of hemiarthroplasty (HA) in the management of proximal humerus fractures (PHFs) and their sequalae has evolved with the development of contemporary internal fixation techniques and the widespread use of the reverse total shoulder arthroplasty. However, HA may still have a role in certain acute PHFs as well as select fracture sequalae. The aim of this investigation was to evaluate the outcomes of HA when used in acute fractures and fracture sequelae. METHODS: Over a 16-year period (2000 - 2016), 122 primary HA performed for either acute PHFs or fracture sequelae were ident

IMPORTANCE: The value of precise anatomic restoration for distal radius fractures (DRFs) in older adults has been debated for many decades, with conflicting results in the literature. In light of the growing population of adults aged 60 years and older, both fracture incidence and associated treatment costs are expected to increase. OBJECTIVE: To determine the association between radiographic measures of reduction and patient outcomes after DRF in older patients. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: Data were collected from the Wrist and Radius Injury Surgical Trial (WRIST), a multicenter rand
