Coccidioidomycosis is an endemic mycosis of the southern United States, Northern Mexico, and South America. Primary cutaneous coccidioidomycosis, despite being a very rare clinical presentation, has shown an increasing incidence. An extensive literature search for cutaneous coccidioidomycosis cases was performed using the OLDMEDLINE, PubMed, Cochrane, LILACS and Google Scholar databases for studies published from January 1927 through December 21, 2019. INTRODUCTION: We describe the clinical and laboratorial features of oral candidiasis in 66 HIV-positive patients.
METHODS: Polymerase chain reaction-based techniques were performed for differentiation of Candida spp. isolated from patients at a public teaching hospital in Midwest Brazil.
RESULTS: Oral lesions, mainly pseudomembranous, were significantly related to higher levels of immunosuppression. Of 45 Candida isolates, 66.7% were C. albicans. Most of the isolates were susceptible to the antifungal drugs tested.

Raised intracranial pressure in the absence of ventricular dilatation is common in cryptococcal meningitis and associated with increased mortality. We report the case of a patient with HIV-associated cryptococcal meningitis, who developed increasing CSF pressure and visual impairment on therapy despite serial lumbar punctures. Insertion of a temporary lumbar drain controlled the opening pressure and resulted in full visual recovery. The advantages and necessary precautions with this approach are reviewed, and alternative protocols for the use of lumbar drains discussed.

The detailed analysis of 411 strains of coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) obtained from 40 neutropenic hemato-oncologic patients (61 Hickman catheter episodes) on intensive chemotherapy is described.
