OBJECTIVE: To assess the changes in the facial attractiveness (FA) in two groups of cleft lip and palate patients with Class III malocclusions treated using LeFort I surgery or late maxillary protraction.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Standardized pre- and post-treatment photographs were taken of 32 patients (17 corrected by orthognathic surgery and 17 by late maxillary protraction). The photographs were randomized and 42 clinicians and 121 laypeople rated them on a 10-point FA scale via a web-based survey.

Ethanol has been used for embolization of arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) for 3 decades. Cardiovascular collapse (CVC), although a rare complication, has been reported and occurs immediately to a few hours after ethanol embolization. The present report describes a case of CVC and disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) after ethanol embolotherapy in a patient with upper lip AVMs. Although resuscitated from asystole, the patient died of DIC 2 days later despite intensive care treatment.

The present study compared the height of the palatal vault in dental casts from 320 10-year-old children with unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP) operated on with the push-back technique according to Wardill-Kilner (W-K) with patients operated on with delayed hard palate closure (DHPC). The palatal height in patients operated on with the DHPC technique was found to be significantly higher than in patients operated on with the W-K technique. This coincides with better maxillary growth and better speech in the DHPC group.

We aimed to compare the reliability of the Kindelan system using one postoperative radiograph to assess the success of alveolar bone grafts with the use of two occlusal radiographs (before and after operation). This retrospective reliability study took place at Glasgow Dental Hospital cleft unit, and two examiners scored 84 radiographs two weeks apart.
