This article reviews several of the recent models addressing the cost-effectiveness of colorectal cancer screening in the average-risk individual (Table 1). Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death but is largely preventable. Current strategies to prevent colorectal cancer vary considerably with regard to effectiveness, up-front costs, risks, and invasiveness. This study examines the difference on several demographic and psychosocial variables between women at high risk for breast cancer above and below the cut-off point of a depression measure (Center for Epidemiological Study Depression Scale).
