Factors Influencing Biofilm Formation by Salmonella enterica sv. Typhimurium, E. cloacae, E. hormaechei, Pantoea spp., and Bacillus spp. Isolated from Human Milk Determined by PCA Analysis.

Bacteria enter milk during poor hygiene practices and can form a biofilm on surfaces that come into contact with human milk. The presence of a biofilm increases the risk of infections among newborns as bacteria protected by biofilm are resistant to washing and disinfection processes. The formation of the biofilm depends on the microbial species, environmental conditions, and the specific materials colonized. The aim of this study is to analyze the effects of factors such as temperature, incubation time, and initial cell concentration on biofilm formation by pathogenic bacteria isolated from hu…

Maternal immunization with a recombinant adenovirus-expressing fusion protein protects neonatal cotton rats from respiratory syncytia virus infection by transferring antibodies via breast milk and placenta.

We evaluated the efficacy of a recombinant adenovirus that expresses a membrane-truncated respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) fusion protein ( … om RSV challenge for 1 week. Vertical-transferred protective antibodies were examined in the breast milk and placenta as well. Finally, anti-RSV immunity was not boosted but was only primed during the next RSV exposure in Ad-F0ΔTM-MI-newborns. Maternal Ad-F0ΔTM immunization provides acute protection against RSV infection in neonates.

Improvement of chemical analysis of antibiotics. Part XIX: Determination of tetracycline antibiotics in milk by liquid chromatography and thin-layer chromatography/fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry.

A precise liquid chromatographic (LC) determination with high sensitivity and a reliable mass spectrometric (MS) confirmation were established for the determination of tetracycline antibiotics (TCs) in milk. The determination of the TCs was based on C18 cartridge cleanup followed by LC separation. Recoveries of TCs from milk fortified at 20 ppb were 73.0-81.8%, and coefficients of variation were 2.6-4.6%. With this method, concentrations of oxytetracycline and tetracycline as low as 10 ppb and chlortetracycline and doxycycline as low as 20 ppb were determined readily. Thin-layer chromatography…
