The effect of work characteristics on advanced practice provider burnout: a secondary cross-sectional analysis.

BACKGROUND: There are few comprehensive studies looking at burnout and well-being among advanced practice providers (APPs). Most of the studies focus on physicians and nurses. The prevalence of burnout in APPs is limited largely to single center studies or certain APPs specialty. Determining drivers of burnout amongst a heterogenous APPs workforce may strengthen the ability to customize support and interventions. In a multicenter randomized control trial studying the feasibility and impact of online group coaching on APPs, we analyzed baseline data to identify work characteristics associated w

Midwives' Climate Change Awareness, Planetary Health Literacy, and Psychological Preparedness for Climate-Related Maternal and Newborn Risks: A Systematic Review.

AIM: To synthesise and critically appraise empirical evidence on midwives' climate change awareness and planetary health literacy, the psychological attributes underpinning their readiness for climate-related maternal and newborn risks, the educational interventions targeting these attributes, and the systemic factors shaping their preparedness. BACKGROUND: Climate change threatens maternal and newborn health through extreme heat, flooding, and disruption of services. Midwives are well positioned to deliver climate-responsive care, yet the constructs used to describe their preparedness-awaren

Feasibility of a new intervention addressing group-based balance and high-intensity training, physical activity, and employment in individuals with multiple sclerosis: a pilot randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Impaired sensorimotor function, reduced physical activity and unemployment are common challenges in persons with multiple sclerosis (pwMS), even when disability is low. CoreDISTparticipation is a new, multidisciplinary intervention delivered across healthcare levels systematically addressing these elements. This study primarily aimed to evaluate the feasibility of CoreDISTparticipation in terms of process, resources, management, and scientific outcomes. The secondary aim was to evaluate initial efficacy in terms of possible short-term effects compared with the usual car

Men as Midwifery Professionals: A Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND/INTRODUCTION: Midwives provide skilled, primary, reproductive, and sexual health care to women, adolescent girls, and infants throughout the perinatal period, promoting health and safeguarding against obstetric emergencies and maternal and infant mortality. In many cultures, midwifery has been a predominantly female profession. However, in emerging research, the proportion of male midwives is growing to augment shortages of female midwives, prompting a need for further research that explores the contributions of male midwives in maternal and child health. The objective of this scopi

Remote vs In-home Physician Visits for Hospital-Level Care at Home: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

IMPORTANCE: Home hospital care is the substitutive provision of home-based acute care services usually associated with a traditional inpatient hospital. Many home hospital models require a physician to see patients at home daily, which may hinder scalability. Whether remote physician visits can safely substitute for most in-home visits is unknown. OBJECTIVE: To compare remote and in-home physician care. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This randomized clinical trial assessed 172 adult patients at an academic medical center and community hospital who required hospital-level care for select

Respiratory intensive care units in Italy: a national census and prospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: In Italy, respiratory intensive care units (RICUs) provide an intermediate level of care between the intensive care unit (ICU) and the general ward for patients with single organ respiratory failure. Because of the lack of official epidemiological data in these units, a two phase study was performed with the aim of describing the work profile in Italian RICUs. METHODS: A national survey of RICUs was conducted from January to March 1997 using a questionnaire which comprised over 30 items regarding location, models of service provision, staff, and equipment. The following criteria w

Structural, Nursing, and Physician Characteristics and 30-Day Mortality for Patients Undergoing Cardiac Surgery in Pennsylvania.

OBJECTIVE: Cardiac surgery ICU characteristics and clinician staffing patterns have not been well characterized. We sought to describe Pennsylvania cardiac ICUs and to determine whether ICU characteristics are associated with mortality in the 30 days after cardiac surgery. DESIGN: From 2012 to 2013, we conducted a survey of cardiac surgery ICUs in Pennsylvania to assess ICU structure, care practices, and clinician staffing patterns. ICU data were linked to an administrative database of cardiac surgery patient discharges. We used logistic regression to measure the association between ICU varia

Improving Access to Maternity Care for Women with Opioid Use Disorders: Colocation of Midwifery Services at an Addiction Treatment Program.

Perinatal drug and alcohol use is associated with serious medical and psychiatric morbidity for pregnant and postpartum women and their newborns. Participation in prenatal care has been shown to improve outcomes, even in the absence of treatment for substance use disorders. Unfortunately, women with substance use disorders often do not receive adequate prenatal care. Barriers to accessing care for pregnant women with substance use disorders include medical and psychiatric comorbidities, transportation, caring for existing children, housing and food insecurity, and overall lack of resources. In
