BACKGROUND: Chemokines effect their proinflammatory and growth regulatory roles through interaction with serpentine receptors. From 1978 to 1992, 19 patients were diagnosed with solitary plasmacytoma of bone (SPB) accounting for 5.5% of plasma cell neoplasms in Chang Gung Memorial Hospital. BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Percutaneous ethanol injection (PEI) is a well-established therapeutic option in patients with cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The modified-Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (m-RECIST) are an important tool for the assessment of HCC response to therapy. The aim was to evaluate whether HCC response according to the m-RECIST criteria could be an effective predictor of long-term survival in Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) stage 0 and A HCC patients undergoing PEI.

Nelson syndrome is a rare cause of generalized mucocutaneous hyperpigmentation. Its clinical manifestations are due to excessive secretion of adrenocorticotropic hormone from a pituitary adenoma, which develops after bilateral therapeutic adrenalectomy. As this operation has fallen into disuse, Nelson syndrome is now extremely rare and difficult to recognize. We present a very severe case of generalized hyperpigmentation due to Nelson syndrome in a 37-year-old woman.

Simultaneous involvement of the same anatomical site by two different primary malignant tumors is rare. Cases of hematopoietic malignancies associated with breast and skin neoplasms have been described. The association of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) has been established, although the cause for this association is still unclear. There are reports of MCC metastatic to lymph nodes involved by CLL. We report the case of a 57-year-old man with history of CLL with concurrent involvement of the arm by CLL and MCC diagnosed on fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNA).

Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH)-independent hypercortisolism accounts for 15%-20% of cases of Cushing syndrome and always arises from primary adrenal disease.
