Obstetric outcomes following artificial and natural cycle frozen embryo transfer in patients with and without endometriosis: a national cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Endometriosis is a common cause of infertility in women of reproductive age, and many affected women require assisted reproductive technology (ART) to conceive. It is also associated with increased risks of adverse obstetric complications. However, the impact of different frozen embryo transfer (FET) protocols on outcomes in this population remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate obstetric outcomes after FET, comparing endometrial preparation methods in women with and without endometriosis using a nationwide cohort from the Republic of Korea. METHODS: We analyzed data from t

Associations of PFAS exposure with obstetric and birth outcomes in the Japan Environment and Children's Study (JECS): Is maternal endometriosis an effect modifier?

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are reportedly associated with adverse obstetric outcomes, including premature labor and gestational diabetes. We aimed to evaluate associations of maternal PFAS exposure with obstetric and birth outcomes in the Japan Environment and Children's Study cohort. This study included 23,596 participants with first-trimester plasma samples analyzed for PFAS concentrations by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Outcome data were transcribed from physicians' questionnaires at birth, and covariates from maternal or prenatal questionnaires. Adjusted

Sphincter repair procedures may be favored in the treatment of obstetrical recto-vaginal fistula: a systematic review of the literature and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: The management of obstetric rectovaginal fistula (RVF) is challenging for the surgeon. The best surgical procedure to repair RVFs, specifically after obstetric anal sphincter injury, has not been extensively studied. The objective was to compare the success of the different procedures performed to repair obstetric RVF. METHODS: The literature search was carried out on PubMed® and Web of Science® from database inception until 31 December 2022. Selection criteria were: (1) patients with a diagnosis of obstetric-related RVF; (2) patients treated surgically with no restriction concern

Factors Affecting Follow-up for Specialty Postpartum Care after Obstetric Anal Sphincter Injury at a Single U.S. Institution.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Early postpartum specialist care may improve outcomes for birthing people who sustain obstetric anal sphincter injuries (OASIS). This study was aimed at describing follow-up rates in a postpartum recovery clinic (PPRC) for patients who sustained OASIS at delivery, and at identifying factors associated with failure to follow up. We hypothesized that providing care in PPRC would result in high rates of access to specialized care for OASIS. METHODS: This was a retrospective cohort study of patients with OASIS at a single institution from January 2018 to December 2023

Improving the quality of information after an obstetrical anal sphincter injury improves the quality of life for women experiencing anal incontinence.

BACKGROUND: To compare the information remembered by women about the potential risk of obstetrical anal sphincter injury (OASIS) according to the occurrence of anal incontinence and the time elapsed since the OASIS. METHODS: This prospective and observational monocentric cohort study included all the 227 women who had OASIS during a 15-years period. Information was collected using the Fecal Incontinence Quality of Life (FIQL) questionnaire, sent to participants by post, and by a phone interview about women's memories of the information given. RESULTS: 80 patients had at least one episode of

Mode of delivery and maternal outcome in subsequent delivery after an obstetric anal sphincter injury: a Finnish retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Obstetric anal sphincter injury (OASI) is a severe complication of vaginal delivery. In previous studies, parturients with a preceding OASI are at increased risk of a recurrent OASI (rOASI) in subsequent vaginal deliveries. In Finland, the rate of OASI is low compared to other countries, at 1.4% of deliveries, and the incidence of rOASI is not well-known. This study examined recurrence and mode of delivery after an OASI. METHODS: This historical cohort study includes 278 women who have experienced an OASI and have delivered again in Tampere University Hospital. Deliveries complica

Effect of the score predicting imminent delivery on the management of unexpected out-of-hospital obstetrical deliveries: a cluster randomized clinical trial.

BACKGROUND AND IMPORTANCE: Early identification of imminent deliveries is crucial for guiding the decision to dispatch emergency medical team to the prehospital setting. OBJECTIVE: To study whether the use of the score predicting imminent delivery (SPID) at the emergency call center reduces the risk of prehospital delivery occurring without the presence of a physician-staffed mobile ICU team. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: Prospective multicenter cluster randomized controlled trial in 19 call centers in France. Calls from pregnant woman in labor with at least 33 weeks of amenorrhea were

Retrospective Study Comparing Treatment Outcomes in Obstetric Patients With Iron Deficiency Anemia Treated With and Without Intravenous Ferric Carboxymaltose.

Introduction Iron deficiency anemia is associated with an increased risk of adverse maternal and perinatal outcomes. Intravenous iron preparation containing ferric carboxymaltose has been shown to be a safe and effective way of increasing hemoglobin (Hb) and mean corpuscular volume (MCV) levels and reducing the need for blood transfusion. In our center, it used to be given as an inpatient procedure because of the risks of potential drug reactions. In 2021, we initiated the administration of intravenous ferric carboxymaltose as an outpatient procedure. We compared the outcomes of patients betwe

Is there a relationship between morphokinetic parameters and obstetrical complications? An analysis of singleton live births after single fresh embryo transfer.

BACKGROUND: With the advancement in embryology and the introduction of time-lapse monitoring system, the embryologists' goal might be to find not only the embryo with the highest probability of live birth, but also the embryo with the highest probability to progress to a healthy full-term delivery. Thus, we aimed to investigate the association between morphokinetic time-lapse parameters and obstetrical and perinatal complications. METHODS: A cohort study reviewing fertility and delivery files of all singletone births from IVF patients whose embryos were cultured in a time-lapse monitoring sys

Retrospective evaluation of obstetric processes in patients with Familial Mediterranean Fever's disease: The three years experience of a tertiary rheumatology clinic.

OBJECTIVES: Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF) is a hereditary autoinflammatory disease affecting both genders in reproductive age. In this study, we aimed to investigate the relation between FMF and pregnancy on both maternal and fetal aspects. MATERIAL AND METHODS: In this retrospective, single-center, descriptive study we analysed total of 95 pregnancies of 40 FMF patients. Clinical and demographic data were obtained from patients' records. To prevent recall bias, only the last pregnancy of each patient was evaluated for disease activity and use or revision of medications during pregnancy.

Immune changes in pregnancy: associations with pre-existing conditions and obstetrical complications at the 20th gestational week-a prospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Pregnancy is a complex biological process and serious complications can arise when the delicate balance between the maternal and semi-allogeneic fetal immune systems is disrupted or challenged. Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), pre-eclampsia, preterm birth, and low birth weight pose serious threats to maternal and fetal health. Identification of early biomarkers through an in-depth understanding of molecular mechanisms is critical for early intervention. METHODS: We analyzed the associations between 47 proteins involved in inflammation, chemotaxis, angiogenesis, and immune syst
