Graves' ophthalmopathy is a distressing autoimmune disease of unknown etiology. Analysis of the genes for antibodies secreted by orbital tissue-infiltrating plasma cells might provide insight into the pathogenesis of this disease. We, therefore, constructed an immunoglobulin heavy (H) chain and an immunoglobulin kappa light (L) chain cDNA library from the orbital tissue of a patient with active Graves' ophthalmopathy. Kwashiorkor may occur when an imbalance between pro- and antioxidants in malnourished children results in an excess of free radicals. The concentrations of the antioxidant enzymes catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), reduced glutathione (GSH) and glutathione peroxidase (GPX) were measured in erythrocytes of 22 children with kwashiorkor on admission to hospital and repeated on days 5, 10 and 30 of recovery. The concentrations were compared with those in 22 children with marasmus and in 20 children who were normally nourished but had infective illness necessitating their hospitalization.

The growth of optic axons towards experimentally rotated tecta has been studied. In stage 24/25 embryos, a piece of the dorsal neural tube, containing the dorsal midbrain rudiment, was rotated through 180 degrees. Routinely paraffin-embedded sections of dysplasia, carcinoma in situ (CIS) and invasive (squamous) carcinoma of the cervix were studied to determine the participation of human papilloma virus (HPV) in these tissues. In this report we present the autopsy findings of acute megakaryoblastic leukemia with tumor formation in a 2-year-old female infant with Down's syndrome.
