Development of a scale measuring the difficulties faced by nurses who care for patients with delirium in intensive care units.

BACKGROUND: Delirium in patients in the intensive care unit is associated with adverse outcomes. Nurses experience many difficulties in caring for those with delirium, which can lead to nurse burnout, prevent effective care for patients, and negatively impact the patient. The identification of factors creating challenges for nurses is, therefore, important to enable intervention. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to develop a new scale to assess the difficulties faced by nurses caring for patients with delirium in the intensive care unit and to examine its reliability and validity. Reliability, structure, and validity of module I (personality functioning) of the Structured Clinical Interview for the alternative DSM-5 model for personality disorders (SCID-5-AMPD-I).

According to the alternative model for personality disorders (AMPD) of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5), a moderate or greater impairment in personality functioning is the essential criterion for a personality disorder diagnosis. Personality functioning is operationalized in the Level of Personality Functioning Scale via 4 domains (identity, self-direction, empathy, and intimacy) and 2 higher order dimensions (self and interpersonal functioning). The current study examined the reliability (interrater, test-retest), structure, and validity (conver

Test-retest reliability of a 30-min fixed perceived effort cycling exercise.

PURPOSE: Using exercise protocols at a fixed rating of perceived effort (RPE) is a useful method for exploring the psychophysical influences on exercise performance. However, studies that have employed this protocol have arbitrarily selected RPE values without considering how these values correspond to exercise intensity thresholds and domains. Therefore, aligning RPE intensities with established physiological thresholds seems more appropriate, although the reliability of this method has not been assessed. METHODS: Eight recreationally active cyclists completed two identical ramped incrementa

First-in-human in vivo imaging and quantification of monoacylglycerol lipase in the brain: a PET study with 18F-T-401.

PURPOSE: Monoacylglycerol lipase (MAGL) regulates cannabinoid neurotransmission and the pro-inflammatory arachidonic acid pathway by degrading endocannabinoids. MAGL inhibitors may accordingly act as cannabinoid-potentiating and anti-inflammatory agents. Although MAGL dysfunction has been implicated in neuropsychiatric disorders, it has never been visualized in vivo in human brain. The primary objective of the current study was to visualize MAGL in the human brain using the novel PET ligand 18F-T-401. METHODS: Seven healthy males underwent 120-min dynamic 18F-T-401-PET scans with arterial blo

Ambulation Mode Classification of Individuals with Transfemoral Amputation through A-Mode Sonomyography and Convolutional Neural Networks.

Many people struggle with mobility impairments due to lower limb amputations. To participate in society, they need to be able to walk on a wide variety of terrains, such as stairs, ramps, and level ground. Current lower limb powered prostheses require different control strategies for varying ambulation modes, and use data from mechanical sensors within the prosthesis to determine which ambulation mode the user is in. However, it can be challenging to distinguish between ambulation modes. Efforts have been made to improve classification accuracy by adding electromyography information, but this

Validation of and Demographically Adjusted Normative Data for the Learning Ratio Derived from the RAVLT in Robustly Intact Older Adults.

BACKGROUND: The learning ratio (LR) is a novel learning slope score that was developed to identify learning more accurately by considering the proportion of information learned after the first trial of a multi-trial learning task. Specifically, LR is the number of items learned after trial one divided by the number of items yet to be learned. Although research on LR has been promising, convergent validation, clinical characterization, and demographic norming of this LR metric are warranted to understand its clinical utility when derived from the Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test (RAVLT). Quantification of Tafenoquine and 5,6-Orthoquinone Tafenoquine by UHPLC-MS/MS in Blood, Plasma, and Urine, and Application to a Pharmacokinetic Study.

Analytical methods for the quantification of the new 8-aminoquinoline antimalarial tafenoquine (TQ) in human blood, plasma and urine, and the 5,6-orthoquinone tafenoquine metabolite (5,6-OQTQ) in human plasma and urine have been validated. The procedure involved acetonitrile extraction of samples followed by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS). Chromatography was performed using a Waters Atlantis T3 column with a gradient of 0.1% formic acid and acetonitrile at a flow rate of 0.5 mL per minute for blood and plasma. Urine analysis was the same but

Influence of Cone-Beam Computed Tomography Voxel Sizes in the Detection of Chemically Induced External Root Resorptions.

BACKGROUND External root resorption usually does not present a clinical sign or symptom, and, therefore, diagnosis is mainly based on radiographic examination. Many studies confirmed the advantage and accuracy of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) in evaluating root resorptions. We aimed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of CBCT images of chemically induced external root resorptions on extracted human teeth taken in different voxel sizes. MATERIAL AND METHODS In this in vitro study, 36 maxillary and 36 mandibular human incisor teeth, extracted owing to periodontal disease, were used. Exter

Validation and clinical application of the Metacognitions Questionnaire in a sample of Brazilian generalized anxiety disorder patients: the effects of different treatment interventions.

INTRODUCTION: Metacognitive beliefs about worry may trigger anxiety. However, the effect of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) treatment on metacognition has not yet been investigated. OBJECTIVES: To validate the Metacognitions Questionnaire (MCQ-30) in a Brazilian GAD sample and verify whether different interventions reduce metacognitive beliefs. METHOD: We recruited 180 GAD individuals and randomized them to Body in Mind Training (BMT), Fluoxetine (FLX), or an active control group (Quality of Life [QoL]) for 8 weeks. The MCQ-30 was assessed for internal consistency, was evaluated with conf

Symptom Dimension Breakpoints for the Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory-Child Version (OCI-CV).

Pediatric obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) clusters around three major symptom dimensions: contamination/cleaning, symmetry/ordering, and disturbing thoughts/checking. The Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory-Child Version (OCI-CV) is a self-report questionnaire that provides scores along six theory-based OCD dimensions, but no study has evaluated how well OCI-CV identifies clinically significant symptoms within each of the three major symptom dimensions of OCD. We examined this question using data from 197 Swedish and Spanish youth with OCD. All youth completed the OCI-CV and clinically signific

Development and Psychometric Evaluation of the Open-Source Challenging Behavior Scale (OS-CBS).

At present, there are no brief, freely-available, informant-report measures that evaluate key challenging behaviors relevant to youth with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or other developmental disabilities (DD). This paper describes the development, refinement, and initial psychometric evaluation of a new 18-item measure, the Open-Source Challenging Behavior Scale (OS-CBS). In a large sample (n = 2004, 169 with ASD, ages 2-17), results of psychometric analyses indicated a clear factor structure (property destruction, aggression, elopement, conduct problems, and self-injury and a general factor
