Robot-assisted simple cystectomy for benign disease with medium-term follow-up: a case series.

BACKGROUND: Robot-assisted cystectomy (RAC) is well established in the management of muscle-invasive or high-grade non-muscle invasive bladder cancer, but its role in benign disease is less well described. This case series represents the largest published experience of RAC for radiation cystitis and the largest series using an intracorporeal urinary diversion technique in this context. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate perioperative outcomes and adverse events following RAC for benign indications, and to compare outcomes between patients with radiation cystitis and other benign conditions. DESIGN: Sin

Safety and feasibility of robotic telesurgery in urological procedures: a systematic review and meta-analysis of clinical data.

Robotic telesurgery has emerged as a potential solution to expand access to specialized surgical care; however, clinical evidence remains fragmented across procedures and robotic platforms. We conducted this meta-analysis to assess the feasibility and safety of robotic telesurgery across urological procedures. An electronic search was conducted on PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science (WoS) and the Cochrane Library from inception through April 2026 according to PRISMA guidelines. Clinical studies reporting robotic telesurgery in urology were included regardless of study design. The primary outcome of

Economic impact of robotic liver resection: systematic review of costs, resource utilization, and hospital stay.

BACKGROUND: The robotic approach is being increasingly utilized for liver resections. Patient benefits from robotic liver resection (RLR) have been observed; however, their cost-benefit is yet to be confirmed. This systematic review aimed to determine the costs of RLR compared to laparoscopic (LLR) or open liver resections (OLR). METHOD: A systematic search of MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane databases was performed in October 2025. Non-randomized studies of adult patients undergoing RLR were included. The narrative data synthesis focused on total, intraoperative and indirect costs, and length o

Artificial intelligence, surgical vision, and digital navigation in robotic urology: a bibliometric and knowledge-mapping analysis.

Digital technologies are increasingly used to extend the anatomical, functional, and procedural information available in robot-assisted urology, but their development has not been examined within a common field-level framework. The final corpus comprised 297 English-language articles and reviews from the Web of Science Core Collection after prespecified screening. We examined publication trends, collaboration patterns, citation relationships, author-keyword structures, and six mutually exclusive primary technology domains using R, VOSviewer, and CiteSpace. Annual output rose from 12 publicatio

Best practices to master robotic preparation of ready-to-administer systemic anticancer therapy in hospital pharmacies.

Automated reconstitution or preparation of systemic anticancer therapy has gained traction in the past decade. Transitioning from traditional manual workflows to fully automated production offers multiple benefits: decreased pharmacy staff workload, reduced risk of repetitive strain injuries, minimized medication errors, and lower risk of occupational exposure to hazardous medicinal products, especially when the robotic preparation areas are fully enclosed. Several elements can facilitate efficient implementation and improve productivity and safety in the use of robotic systems. The purpose of

Failure modes in soft-tissue surgical robots: an adjudicated FDA recall cohort, 2005-2026.

FDA recall records document corrections and removals; however, product naming, administrative root-cause descriptors, and the functional mechanisms underlying failure are not interchangeable. Accordingly, the affected assets, functional loci, failure modes, and requested actions were characterized in recalls involving soft-tissue surgical robotic systems. A retrospective cohort was constructed from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Medical Device Recall Database and openFDA through 17 July 2026. Eligible product records were deduplicated by FDA product-record identifier and grouped by

Embodied robots in rehabilitation-oriented interventions for older adults with disability or cognitive impairment: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Robots are increasingly used in later-life care. However, existing reviews often combine applications such as companionship, telepresence, medication support, monitoring, psychosocial support, traditional AI, and rehabilitation within a single body of evidence. This conceptual overlap makes it difficult to interpret the rehabilitation-specific evidence base. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to map empirical studies on embodied robots used in rehabilitation-oriented interventions for older adults with disability or cognitive impairment and to clarify the operational boundary between reh

Design, Modeling and Evaluation of Lattice Structure Pneumatic Actuators (LSPAs) for Soft Wrist Rehabilitation Robot.

Soft robots have gained recognition as promising solutions in rehabilitation robotics due to their intrinsic flexibility and safety features. However, they often encounter challenges related to output efficiency and portability. This paper presents the design, modeling, and evaluation of an innovative wrist rehabilitation robot that employs two double-layer lattice structure pneumatic actuators (DLSPAs) to enhance efficiency. Key parameters of these DLSPAs are optimized through a mathematical model, with calibration experiments indicating that the discrepancy between actual and predicted value…

Economic, resource-use, and adoption signals in the robotic colorectal surgery literature: a bibliometric and visualization study.

Robotic colorectal surgery has expanded from technical feasibility to broad clinical adoption, but its economic value remains context dependent because costs interact with case selection, conversion, complications, length of stay, long-term outcomes, and health-system structure. We performed a value-oriented bibliometric and visualization analysis of Web of Science Core Collection records retrieved on August 7, 2026, using search concepts spanning economic value, resource use, adoption, implementation, access, and equity. Bioinspired additive manufacturing material optimization for increased stiffness and improved strain sensing in robotic limbs.

Robots traversing uneven terrain may require precise calculation of limb kinematics (e.g. foot position from joint angles and segment dimensions) and sensing of force for adaptive walking control. To facilitate these calculations, robots often have very rigid limb segments with a stiff load cell between the limb and end effector (e.g. foot). Insects also must compute kinematics and measure force when walking, but sense forces quite differently, using strain sensors embedded in their exoskeletons distributed across their legs to infer force. Due to this configuration, more rigid leg segments wo

Periprosthetic knee fractures following robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty: an observational incidence study.

Periprosthetic knee fractures are rare but serious complications of total knee arthroplasty (TKA), the incidence of which is rising due to an aging population and rising TKA rates. They most commonly affect the distal femur, and these fractures are linked to factors such as osteoporosis and falls. Robotic-assisted TKA (RA-TKA) improves surgical precision but introduces risks, such as pin-site complications. This study aims to report the incidence rate of periprosthetic distal femur fractures after RA-TKA. This is a retrospective cohort study, which was conducted at single tertiary center. The

Sensorless Contact Force Estimation and Adaptive Variable-Damping Compliant Control for Biomimetic Robotic Arm.

To address contact force estimation and compliant control for biomimetic robotic arms interacting with uncertain environments, an adaptive variable-damping impedance control method based on a fuzzy-controlled forgetting-factor strong tracking Kalman filter (FSKF) is proposed. The proposed method improves the conventional strong tracking Kalman filter (SKF) by introducing a fuzzy control strategy to adaptively adjust the forgetting factor, thereby enhancing the filtering performance and improving the accuracy of contact force estimation. The estimated contact force is subsequently incorporated

A Modified Biogeography-Based Optimization Approach for Visual Position-Based Inverse Kinematics of Robotic Arms.

Precise end-effector positioning of a robotic arm is critical for accurate performance in robotics, which directly impacts the system's performance in applications requiring high precision. This paper presents an optimized tag-based inverse kinematics approach for a 6 DoF robotic arm using a Modified Biogeography-Based Optimization (MBBO) algorithm, which is an enhanced version of the original Biogeography-Based Optimization (BBO), a population-based evolutionary algorithm inspired by the natural distribution of species across habitats. The target position is identified via AprilTag visual fid…

Implementation of Robotic-Assisted Procedure for Total Hip Arthroplasty Is Not Economical in a High-Volume Orthopaedic Facility.

BACKGROUND: Advances in elective primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) have led to the use of robotic assistance and computer navigation during surgery; recent reports have demonstrated substantial benefits of this technology. However, few studies have made a head-to-head comparison of technology with a specific focus on patient-reported outcomes (PROs) when preoperative patient profiles are well controlled. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to compare outcomes among patients who underwent conventional, robotic-assisted, and computer-navigated procedures. METHODS: This retrospective stu

Analysis of posterolateral and anterolateral laxity in varus knees undergoing robotic assisted total knee arthroplasty.

Achieving equal/ near equal gaps on medial and lateral side in flexion and extension is important for a well-balanced total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Assistive technologies like robotic assisted TKA (RATKA), permit intraoperative assessment of the lateral and medial gaps throughout the range of motion. Aim of study is to analyze the difference between the lateral and medial gaps in full extension and in full flexion in varus knees. A retrospective analysis of the prospectively collected data of the consecutive first 50 RATKA patients using Velys (with 1.9.4 software) system. Inclusion criteria

Sex-related differences in final knee balance during robotic-assisted unicompartmental knee arthroplasty.

INTRODUCTION: In robotic medial unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (mUKA), a preoperative alignment strategy can be defined and subsequently adjusted through stress testing to achieve optimal soft-tissue balance. However, the application of uniform planning principles does not necessarily yield equivalent balance in all patients. The aim of this study was to examine differences in intraoperative balance according to patient sex and the degree of preoperative varus deformity. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A single-center retrospective cohort study including 254 MAKO® robotic-assisted medial UKAs (201

Surgical team ergonomics during robotic versus conventional laparoscopic surgery: a prospective observational study.

Robotic surgery has been associated with improved ergonomics compared with conventional laparoscopy. However, most studies have focused on the console surgeon, and its impact on other members of the operative team remains poorly understood. We conducted an exploratory prospective observational study with repeated procedure-level assessments including robotic and conventional laparoscopic upper gastrointestinal and colorectal procedures performed from September 2024 to March 2025. After each operation, primary surgeons and surgical assistants completed a structured questionnaire assessing perce
