Urinary incontinence secondary to neurogenic or malformafive bladders is a major problem influencing social insertion and has been totally transformed by bladder augmentation associated to continent urinary diversion as described by Mitroffanof. PURPOSE: We reviewed the erosion rate of the double cuff artificial urinary sphincter.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Charts of 95 patients were evaluated for erosions and underlying etiology.
RESULTS: Ten patients had erosion of the cuffs, for an erosion rate of 10.5%. Of the 10 erosions 4 (40%) were secondary to iatrogenic injuries.
CONCLUSIONS: Addition of a second cuff to the artificial urinary sphincter remains a safe alternative for patients with severe urinary stress incontinence.

The standard of care after a pelvic fracture urethral injury is a repair via a one-stage anastomotic posterior urethroplasty using a step-wise perineal approach. The initial injury, immediate postoperative management, and surgical repair can all affect urinary continence in these patients. Proximal continence mechanisms, particularly the bladder neck, are particularly important in maintaining urinary continence in these patients. Patients with bladder neck dysfunction should be counselled about the greater risk of urinary incontinence.

There were 77 women with mild to moderate stress urinary incontinence treated with the sympathomimetic agent, phenylpropanolamine hydrochloride, combined with chlorpheniramine maleate and isopropamide iodide in a sustained release capsule (Ornade). We report 4 cases of severe urinary obstruction after abdominal stress incontinence procedures in women. The operative procedure consisted in transurethral resection of the obstructive, overcorrected dorsal bladder neck. After resection of the highly elevated bladder neck between the 3- and 9-o'clock position in the dorsal lithotomy position, the patients were able to regain a normal micturition without residual urine. There was no recurrence of stress incontinence.
