OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence of malnutrition among liver transplant (LT) candidates.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A prospective study evaluated 219 adult LT candidates including 141 men and 78 women. OBJECTIVES: In ankylosing spondylitis (AS) patients, cardiac and vascular involvement may manifest as atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease. Systemic inflammation, oxidative stress, increased low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and decreased high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol constitute a significant risk for atherosclerosis. This study investigated the relationship between carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT), LDL/HDL ratio, total oxidant status (TOS; an indicator of oxidative stress) and ischemic modified albumin (IMA; an ischemic marker in AS patients).

We evaluated biochemical alterations as predictors of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF). Patients with confirmed infection with dengue virus were prospectively evaluated for the first seven days of disease to determine their final clinical outcome. Serum samples taken 48-96 hours after onset of fever were used for biochemical tests. Of 199 patients, 30 developed DHF. BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Destruction of microbubbles by transcutaneous low-frequency ultrasound (LFUS) has been used to lyse adjacent clot and recanalize acutely thrombosed vessels. LFUS with intraarterial microbubbles has been shown to lyse cerebral clot rapidly in pigs without thrombolytic drugs.
