A retrospective survey was performed in 205 cases of gestational trophoblastic neoplasia with the use of routine tissue sections and quinacrine stain after hydrolysis and pronase pretreatment. The method allows scoring of nuclei simultaneously for either Y chromatin or X chromatin (Barr body) and has proved to be a valid test for sex assignment in tissue sections. Recently, a new epidemic illness, the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, has dramatically emerged in the United States, Europe, and Haiti. The syndrome represents an unprecedented epidemic form of immunodeficiency involving prominent defects of the T-lymphocyte arm of the immune system. Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia, other opportunistic infections, and the previously rare cancer, Kaposi's sarcoma, are the most conspicuous illnesses that have this profound state of immune compromise as their underlying basis. Two years after the onset of clinical illness the case-fatality rate may exceed 90%.

During a period of 2 years, bone mineral content (BMC) was measured regularly in patients undergoing regular dialysis treatment (RDT). Low BMC values were found to be correlated to long duration of uremia, raised alkaline phosphatase activity, hyperaluminemia, hypermagnesemia, hypophosphatemia and clinical osteodystrophy. Gastroschisis models were successfully created in three groups of fetal rabbits by means of fetal surgery. Anatomical and pathologic assessments were carried out on the neonates that had experimental gastroschisis. In group I surgery was performed on the fetuses of 21 days gestational age; in group II on the fetuses of 23 days; and in group III on the fetuses of 26 days, respectively. Primary synovial osteochondromatosis of the ankle is a rare and benign disease of the young adult. It is characterized by the formation of multiple nodules of hyaline cartilage under the synovium. It is usually asymptomatic but can sometimes be revealed by pain or joint mobility disorders. X-rays and CT scans can easily diagnose calcified osteochondromas, but ultrasound and MRI can provide a quicker diagnosis by visualizing non-calcified foreign bodies. Surgery under arthroscopy remains the best therapeutic choice, however, this pathology still causes recurrence in less than 1/3 of cases.
