Reliability and Validity of an Observational Measure of Client Decision-Making: The Client Language Assessment - Proximal/Distal (CLA-PD).

OVERVIEW: The Client Language Assessment - Proximal/Distal (CLA-PD) is a language rating system for measuring client decision-making in interventions that target a specified behavior change (e.g., alcohol or other drug use). In the CLA-PD, there are five dimensions of change language (Reason, Ability, Commitment, Taking Steps, Other) adapted from the client portion of the Motivational Interviewing Skill Code (MISC). For the CLA-PD, language codes are sub-divided to discriminate statements regarding the primary, or target behavior change (distal change) from the intermediate coping activities (

Combined Plasma and Cerebrospinal Fluid Signature for the Prediction of Midterm Progression From Mild Cognitive Impairment to Alzheimer Disease.

IMPORTANCE: A reliable method of detecting Alzheimer disease (AD) in its prodromal state is needed for patient stratification in clinical trials or for personalizing existing or potential upcoming therapies. Current cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)- or imaging-based single biomarkers for AD offer reliable identification of patients with underlying AD but insufficient prediction of the rate of AD progression. OBJECTIVE: To optimize prediction of progression from mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to AD dementia by combining information from diverse patient variables. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS:

Trombocytopenia: one of the markers of disseminated intravascular coagulation.

BACKGROUND: Huntington disease (HD) is a rare genetic neurodegenerative disease that causes progressive motor, cognitive, and psychiatric symptoms over decades after onset. Clinical care is typically provided in specialized centers with only annual clinical assessments, highlighting the need for more frequent and cost-effective monitoring. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to develop and validate xHD-Vox, a fully automated, interpretable, speech-based model for predicting the composite Unified Huntington Disease Rating Scale (cUHDRS) and its cognitive, motor, and functional components. METHODS: We

Posttraumatic Stress Symptoms and Anger Among Police Officers Following a Fatal Knife Attack on a Team Member.

Mental disorders and impairments are part of the occupational risk for emergency personnel. This study examines the impact of a deadly knife attack on police officers' mental health. Aims: We hypothesized that police officers who knew the deceased team member would report higher levels of psychological distress compared to those who did not, regardless of the deployment status. Methods: Six months after a fatal knife attack in which a police officer was killed, a total of N = 245 officers participated in the study. Of these, n = 115 reported knowing the victim personally, n = 126 did not (n =

Effects of a remote therapeutic education programme involving peers and health professionals on physical activity in patients with coronary heart disease undergoing phase 3 cardiac rehabilitation: protocol for a single-centre randomised controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Maintaining a satisfactory level of physical activity (PA) after cardiovascular rehabilitation in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) is an important public health issue. However, more than half of patients do not maintain recommended levels of PA in the long term. There is growing interest in the use of cognitive-behavioural interventions that actively involve both health professionals and patients in education and research settings. We hypothesise that a personalised therapeutic education programme (PTEP) delivered by peers in collaboration with health professionals may

Attentional network deficits in patients with migraine: behavioral and electrophysiological evidence.

BACKGROUND: Patients with migraine often experience not only headache pain but also cognitive dysfunction, particularly in attention, which is frequently overlooked in both diagnosis and treatment. The influence of these attentional deficits on the pain-related clinical characteristics of migraine remains poorly understood, and clarifying this relationship could improve care strategies. METHODS: This study included 52 patients with migraine and 34 healthy controls. We employed the Attentional Network Test for Interactions and Vigilance-Executive and Arousal Components paradigm, combined with

HPV Vaccine Communication Competency Scale for Medical Trainees: Interdisciplinary Development Study.

BACKGROUND: Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States. High-risk HPV strains are associated with cancer of the cervix, oropharynx, anus, rectum, penis, vagina, and vulva. To combat increasing HPV-related cancers, the 9-valent HPV vaccine Gardasil was developed. Recommendation of the HPV vaccine by a health care provider has been cited as the number one factor affecting vaccine uptake among adolescents and young adults. Physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and pharmacists have been enlisted to bridge the gap. OBJECTIVE: Th

Dynamic changes of brain networks during feedback-related processing of reinforcement learning in schizophrenia.

Previous studies have reported that schizophrenia (SZ) patients showed selective reinforcement learning deficits and abnormal feedback-related event-related potential (ERP) components. However, how the brain networks and their topological properties evolve over time during transient feedback-related cognition processing in SZ patients has not been investigated so far. In this paper, using publicly available feedback-related ERP data which were recorded from SZ patients and healthy controls (HC) when they performed a reinforcement learning task, we carried out an event-related network analysis

Anaemia among students of rural China's elementary schools: prevalence and correlates in Ningxia and Qinghai's poor counties.

Although the past few decades have seen rising incomes and increased government attention to rural development, many children in rural China still lack regular access to micronutrient-rich diets. Insufficient diets and poor knowledge of nutrition among the poor result in nutritional problems, including iron-deficiency anaemia, which adversely affect attention and learning of students in school. Little research has been conducted in China documenting the prevalence of nutritional problems among vulnerable populations, such as school-age children, in rural areas. The absence of programmes to com

UP-BEAT (Upper Limb Baby Early Action-observation Training): protocol of two parallel randomised controlled trials of action-observation training for typically developing infants and infants with asymmetric brain lesions.

INTRODUCTION: Infants with asymmetric brain lesions are at high risk of developing congenital hemiplegia. Action-observation training (AOT) has been shown to effectively improve upper limb motor function in adults with chronic stroke. AOT is based on action observation, whereby new motor skills can be learnt by observing motor actions. This process is facilitated by the Mirror Neuron System, which matches observed and performed motor actions. This study aims to determine the efficacy of AOT in: (1) influencing the early development of reaching and grasping of typically developing infants and (

Therapist-Assisted Internet-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Versus Progressive Relaxation in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder: Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a highly disabling psychological disorder with a chronic course if left untreated. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) has been shown to be an effective treatment, but access to face-to-face CBT is not always possible. Internet-based CBT (iCBT) has become an increasingly viable option. However, no study has compared iCBT to an analogous control condition using a randomized controlled trial (RCT). OBJECTIVE: A 2-armed RCT was used to compare a therapist-assisted 12-module iCBT to an analogous active attention control condition (therapist-assist

The effectiveness of serious games in healthcare education: An umbrella review.

BACKGROUND: Serious games (SGs) use game-based principles seen in entertaining games but for an educational purpose. The integration of SGs into health profession education has gained increasing attention to enhance learning outcomes and prepare students for clinical practice. SGs provide students with a realistic clinical experience in assessing data, making clinical decisions and experiencing the consequences of their decisions in a safe environment. However, studies with health professions students tend to focus primarily on short-term knowledge outcomes, with limited attention to other ess

Development of cognitive remediation interventions for people living with HIV in South Africa: participant experiences of adapted CogSMART and BrainHQ© programs.

INTRODUCTION: Previous studies suggest that cognitive remediation training (CRT) programs can help address neurocognitive impairment (NCI) and associated functional challenges in multiple populations. However, no such program has been developed for persons living with HIV in low- or middle-income countries (LMICs). METHODS: In this qualitative study, we aimed to describe how South African people living with HIV perceived and experienced the local adaptations of two US-designed CRT programs. We recruited 34 people living with HIV (27 women; age 30-50 years) from community healthcare clinics an
