A 66-year-old woman with no prior medical history presented to the emergency department with diplopia and parosmia. The neurological examination identified an isolated left abducens nerve (CN VI) palsy. A head CT scan, followed by a brain MRI, showed a large, locally advanced tumour in the left sphenoid sinus with extensive skull base involvement and perineural extension into the left orbit. The histopathological analysis of the sphenoid sinus biopsy revealed high-grade diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. A PET scan confirmed this was a primary bone lymphoma. MRI of the pituitary, without contrast,

Primary cardiac tumors account for only 0.3% of all cardiac tumors; of these, lymphomas account for only 2% of all primary cardiac tumors. Cardiac lymphomas have a grim prognosis, often less than 1 year due to delays in diagnosis and treatment. Cardiac MRI is the gold standard for the imaging of cardiac tumors. We describe the case of a 76-year-old man with no significant past medical history who presented to the emergency department with a large pericardial effusion that was found to be consistent with cardiac lymphoma on cardiac MRI prior to tissue diagnosis of a primary cardiac diffuse larg

Primary malignant lymphoma of the breast is rare, and Burkitt's lymphoma is especially rare. We report the case of a 44-year-old woman in whom Burkitt's lymphoma involving both breasts was diagnosed. The patient was referred to our hospital because of a diffuse, firm swelling, like a bulky ball, in both breasts. Fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) of both breast masses revealed malignant lymphoma(ML), and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma was diagnosed based on the results of immunohistochemical studies of a core needle biopsy specimen. The gallium scan revealed very hot lesions in both breasts

Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma localized to the mediastinum and adjacent structures occurred in 12 of 215 (6+) non-Hodgkin's lymphoma patients seen at the Massachusetts General Hospital between 1975 and 1979. Lymphangiography, radionuclide scanning and whole body computerized tomography were used to exclude patients with extrathoracic disease at presentation. Eleven of the 12 patients presented with extensive contiguous extranodal disease (Stage IIE) with involvement of either the pericardium, sternum, chest wall, pulmonary parenchyma or, in four cases, with superior venacaval obstruction. Diffuse lar

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to explore the association between extent of cutaneous involvement, presenting features and progression-free survival (PFS) in patients with primary cutaneous non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (PCNHL) of aggressive histology.
METHODS: Previously untreated patients with localized or extensive PCNHL of aggressive histology, treated with combination chemotherapy, but excluding lymphoblastic lymphoma and mycosis fungoides and its variants, were reviewed retrospectively.
RESULTS: We identified 53 patients, of whom 52 (35 males, 17 females) were treated with doxorubicin-

Malignant lymphoma of the remnant stomach was diagnosed in a 53-year-old man 8 years after gastrectomy for a perforated gastric ulcer. Endoscopic examination demonstrated protruding lesions spreading over the entire residual stomach, and biopsy revealed malignant lymphoma. Rectal cancer was diagnosed simultaneously. The residual stomach was completely excised, with splenectomy, in parallel with low anterior resection of the rectum. Histological studies revealed that the lesion in the residual stomach was a lymphoma of the diffuse, large-cell type, according to the Lymphoma-Leukemia Study Group

Non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (NHL) involving the uterus may be either low-stage neoplasms that probably arise in the uterus (primary) or systemic neoplasms with secondary involvement. In this study, 26 NHL involving the uterus are reported. Ten cases were stage I(E) or II(E) and are presumed to be primary. The mean age of patients at presentation was 55 years (range, 35 to 67 years), and abnormal uterine bleeding was the most frequent complaint (six patients). Nine of 10 tumors involved the cervix. Histologically, eight were diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL); one was follicle center lymphoma, f

BACKGROUND: Urinary tract and male genital organ lymphoid neoplasms are uncommon, accounting for less than 5% of all primary extranodal lymphomas. There have only been a few small case series and isolated case reports describing the primary sites and subtypes of these neoplasms. The aim of the study is to investigate the pathological characteristics of patients diagnosed with primary Genitourinary (GU) lymphoma in at two major hospitals.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: We obtained cases that were diagnosed with primary GU lymphomas between 2005 and 2020. Pathology and immunohistochemistry slides were r

Array-based comparative genomic hybridization (array CGH) enables us to detect the genomic copy number alterations of cancers with high resolution. Our established array CGH platform consists of 2,304 BAC/PAC clones covering the whole genome at 1.3-mega base resolutions. Using this technique, we were thus able to reveal disease-specific genomic alterations and the candidate target genes in various lymphomas. We herein report the characteristic genomic alterations of malignant lymphomas including diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), follicular lymphoma (FL) and adult T cell lymphoma/leukemia

OBJECTIVE: This study provides the clinical pathological characteristics of 1301 cases of pediatric/adolescent lymphomas in patients from different geographic regions of Brazil.
METHODS: A retrospective analyses of diagnosed pediatric lymphoma cases in a 10-year period was performed. We believe that it represents the largest series of pediatric lymphomas presented from Brazil.
RESULTS: Non-Hodgkin lymphomas represented 68% of the cases, including those of precursor (36%) and mature (64%) cell origin. Mature cell lymphomas comprised 81% of the B-cell phenotype and 19% of the T-cell phenotype.

The established treatment algorithms for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL)/small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL) are currently challenged by novel classes of drugs, with ibrutinib being one of the most effective. Published data suggest that patients with early progression under ibrutinib often emerge as having Richter's transformation (RT) with a rapidly fatal prognosis, mostly developing diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). In this respect, it is known that RT to large DLBCL occurs in about 5% of patients with CLL during the disease course and less frequently to Hodgkin lymphoma (HL). Here, we

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE: Diagnosis of lymphocytic leukemia and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) is based on bone marrow morphology. Immunophenotyping will make diagnosis more precise through analyzing the origin and differentiation status of tumor, which is necessary for treatment and prognosis prediction. This study was to analyze the immunophenotypic characteristics of lymphocytic leukemia and NHL with bone marrow involvement using flow cytometry (FCM).
METHODS: Bone marrow specimens from 112 patients with lymphocytic leukemia or NHL with bone marrow involvement were detected by FCM using antibo

BACKGROUND: Previous epidemiological studies suggest an association between hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (B-NHL). The aim of our study was to evaluate clinical characteristics and serological indicators of HBV activity in patients who were diagnosed with both HBV infection and indolent or aggressive B-NHL.
METHODS: Seventy-two patients with current or resolved HBV infection and B-NHL were identified between 2000 and 2017 at our institution.
RESULTS: Forty-five (63%) and 27 (37%) patients were identified with aggressive and indolent B-NHL, respectively. In

To investigate the origin and pathogenesis of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS)-related lymphoma (ARL), we studied 14 cases in which Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection was not an etiologic factor. By histology, 8 of the specimens were of the small noncleaved cell type and 6 consisted of the large diffuse cell type. Southern analysis using a J(H) probe was consistent with a monoclonal B-cell tumor in 13 cases. To characterize the expressed Ig genes, we performed reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and direct sequencing of PCR products. Eight cases expressed IgM and
