Squamous cell carcinoma arising in the postcricoid area of the hypopharynx is relatively late diagnose. Previous observation concerning patients treated in our Clinic and the data from literature confirmed very bad diagnosis in this cases. The results of the Clinical observation of 58 patients and pathomorphology findings in 35 preparates have been described. In that group we have found only 16 cases (27.6%) with 3 years long surviving rate. Morphological findings, relating lymphatic system, partially explained so bed prognosis.

The charts of 35 women with primary malignant non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (NHL) of the breast were retrieved from the files of the Istituto Nazionale Tumori, Milan, over a 30-year period (1957 to 1986). Appendicitis is a very rare presenting symptom of abdominal Burkitt's lymphoma. Only four cases have previously been identified in the literature, all of them males. From 1979 to 1987, 1103 thoracotomies were performed in patients with lung cancer: 824 (74.7%) radical resections, 141 (12.7%) palliative resections and 138 (12.5%) exploratory thoracotomies. Among the 965 patients who underwent resection, 539 patients were N0, 190 patients N1 and 236 patients N2. Three cases of malignant lymphoma of the breast are described, seen over a 14 year period in the district of Kuopio University Central Hospital. During the last 5-year period aggressive surgical debulking was performed in 19 of 21 consecutive patients with the midgut carcinoid syndrome. Two patients were excluded due to severe cardiac disease. Fourteen of the patients had hepatic metastases. Carcinoid symptoms can occur also in patients without proven liver disease with sole lymph node metastases or retroperitoneal tumours. In 4 patients all metastatic tumour tissue could be removed resulting in biochemical cure and no symptoms. A 60-year-old man was followed for 5 years for plaque stage mycosis fungoides (MF), follicular mucinosis (FM), and multiple recurrent acquired epidermal cysts on the face, scalp, right axilla, and inguinoscrotal areas. Topical nitrogen mustard and steroids, as well as systemic retinoids controlled the infiltrated lesions of MF, but had no effects on the cysts, which had to be removed surgically. Such cases have to be distinguished from MF in a tumor stage and may suggest that the recurrent cysts represent a paraneoplastic syndrome.

From 1971 to 1980, 1292 patients with lung cancer were admitted to the Hôpital du Sacré-Coeur de Montréal. This diagnosis represented 0.5% of admissions in 1971 and 1.7% in 1980 (240% increase). Electron microscopy was used to investigate skin biopsy specimens in 20 patients with different clinicomorphological types of T-cell skin lymphomas (TCSL) over time. The data of 331 women with breast cancer treated in the Second Department of Surgery, Helsinki University, during the period 1976-1980 (patient material, treatment, prognostic factors) is evaluated and compared with an equally large patient material treated during the period 1951-1961 in the same hospital. A total of 417 evaluable patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphomas were diagnosed between January 1974 and December 1983 at the American University of Beirut Medical Center in Beirut, Lebanon. Of these, 179 (43%) patients had nodal lymphomas, and 183 (44%) had extranodal lymphomas. The commonest lymphoma was diffuse large cell (27%), followed by large cell immunoblastic (21%). The distinctive clinical features and natural history of mycosis fungoides, an epidermotropic variant of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, are presented. These findings are compared with certain non-mycosis fungoides T-cell lymphomas that occasionally occur in the skin. Clinical staging and evaluation of patients with cutaneous lesions including plaques, tumors, or erythroderma, with or without nodal involvement and disseminated disease, are considered. Associated disorders such as follicular mucinosis, actinic reticuloid, lymphomatoid papulosis, and secondary primary malignancies are also presented.

Cancer of the prostate is the most common form of carcinoma in males of advanced age. If treated at an early stage, it can be healed by prostatovesiculectomy. Rectal prophylactic examination of all males aged 45 years or more should therefore be performed on a larger scale in order to detect these carcinomas as early as possible. Transurethral ultrasonographic examination was performed on a total of 24 patients with 40 bladder tumors to evaluate the accuracy of the method to detect bladder tumors and to compare ultrasonographic staging of bladder tumors with pathological staging.
