The Second American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine Evidence-Based Medicine Assessment of Ultrasound-Guided Regional Anesthesia: Executive Summary.

OBJECTIVES: In 2009 and again in 2012, the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine assembled an expert panel to assess the evidence basis for ultrasound guidance as a nerve localization tool for regional anesthesia. METHODS: The 2012 panel reviewed evidence from the first advisory but focused primarily on new information that had emerged since 2009. A new section was added regarding the accuracy and reliability of ultrasound for determining needle-to-nerve proximity. Jadad scores are used to rank study quality. Grades of recommendations consistent with their level of evidenc

Assessment of chronic pain in children: current status and emerging topics.

The present paper reviews the current status of research on assessment of chronic pain in children and adolescents, primarily in the context of treatment outcome research. Two specific primary aims are addressed. First, the degree of attention devoted to several major domains of chronic pain assessment (pain, physical functioning, role functioning, sleep and emotional functioning) is summarized, highlighting areas where further instrument development and validation are needed. Second, sensitivity of instruments within these domains is presented using data from clinical trials of psychological

[Neuropathic pain in Fabry's disease: heterogeneous remission in three years of enzyme replacement therapy].

INTRODUCTION: Fabry's disease is associated with acute neuropathic pain (NP). When six males with classic Fabry's disease ended three years of enzyme replacement therapy (ERT), studies were conducted to analyse the progression of the NP. PATIENTS AND METHODS: All of them received 1 mg/kg of agalsidase beta every 14 days. NP in hands and feet was evaluated at 0, 6, 12, 24 and 36 months, two modalities being considered: a) very intense pain or Fabry crises (FC), which forced the patient to rest, take analgesics and apply cold locally; b) acroparesthesias (AP), lower intensity itching, tingling

Pharmacological and behavioral pain treatment strategies for patients with opioid use disorder.

INTRODUCTION: A critical challenge in providing effective medical care for individuals in opioid agonist treatment (OAT) for opioid use disorder is the effective management of acute and chronic pain. While pain commonly co-occurs with opioid use disorder, there is limited research to guide effective management of pain in this population. AREAS COVERED: We first provide an overview of the etiology and treatment of acute and chronic pain, highlighting areas of complexity for patients receiving OAT. We then describe the search strategy, which involved a date-inclusive search for relevant terms i

Design and implementation of online acceptance and commitment therapy with enhanced therapist support for chronic low back pain (ACT for PAIN).

BACKGROUND: Chronic low back pain (cLBP) typically involves behavior patterns in the development and maintenance of symptoms. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an evidence-based treatment for chronic pain shown to improve pain-related depression, anxiety, and sleep, as well as pain catastrophizing, pain interference, and levels of reported pain. It has been proven effective when delivered in person or online, but an online therapist-enhanced ACT has not been tested to treat cLBP. This approach may have care delivery advantages while maintaining patient engagement with treatment. OBJE
