During a period of 7 years the case histories of 60 infants with direct hyperbilirubinaemia were prospectively evaluated. At presentation the majority of infants had an age below 1 month. The clinical findings, surgical techniques, anatomic results and visual recovery in 71 pseudophakic and 71 aphakic eyes with retinal detachment repaired concurrently were compared. Within the past five years we have performed excision of one quadrant of the ciliary body (pars plicata) (e.c.b.) in 22 eyes with secondary narrow-angle glaucoma. Splenectomies performed in children aged 0-14 during the period 1968-1977 have been reviewed. In 413 cases traumatic rupture of the spleen had occurred. The trauma causing the rupture, preoperative examinations, operative findings and complications have been studied. Most frequently traffic accidents had caused the splenic rupture. Positive preoperative urine cultures were obtained from 31 of 107 patients who underwent transurethral prostatectomy (TUR). The incidence was 59% among the patients who had had indwelling catheter and 15% in the non-catheterized cases.
