Questionable Immunity to Mumps among Healthcare Workers in Italy-A Cross-Sectional Serological Study.

Highly contagious diseases, such as mumps, are a global concern as new epidemics continue to emerge, even in highly vaccinated populations. The risk of transmission and spread of these viruses is even higher for individuals who are more likely to be exposed, including healthcare workers (HCWs). In healthcare settings, both HCWs and patients are at risk of infection during the care process, potentially leading to nosocomial epidemic outbreaks. Mumps is often underestimated compared with measles and rubella, despite being milder and less likely to spread. In fact, the risk of complications follo

Building communities of practice through case-based e-learning to prevent and manage TB among people living with HIV-India.

BACKGROUND: Co-management of HIV-TB coinfection remains a challenge globally. Addressing TB among people living with HIV (PLHIV) is a key priority for the Government of India (GoI). In 2016, GoI implemented single-window services to prevent and manage TB in PLHIV. To strengthen HIV-TB service delivery, case-based e-learning was introduced to health care providers at Antiretroviral Therapy centres (ARTc). METHODS: We implemented a hub and spoke model to deliver biweekly, virtual, case-based e-learning at select ARTc (n = 115), from four states of India-Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and

Protocol for a multicentre, parallel-group, open-label randomised controlled trial comparing ferric carboxymaltose with the standard of care in anaemic Malawian pregnant women: the REVAMP trial.

INTRODUCTION: Anaemia in pregnancy remains a critical global health problem, affecting 46% of pregnant women in Africa and 49% in Asia. Oral iron therapy requires extended adherence to achieve correction of anaemia and replenishment of iron stores. Ferric carboxymaltose (FCM) is a recently established intravenous iron formulation associated with substantial advantages in safety, speed of delivery and total dose deliverable in a single infusion. We aim to determine whether FCM given once during the second trimester of pregnancy compared with standard oral iron distributed through routine antena

Safety of the progesterone-releasing vaginal ring (PVR) among lactating women: A systematic review.

CONTEXT: Lactation causes a delay in ovulation in the postpartum period, and therefore a delay in the resumption of menses. However, return to fertility is variable in the postpartum period and is contingent upon numerous factors. The postpartum period is therefore a critical time to initiate effective contraception in order to support the numerous beneficial health outcomes of optimal pregnancy spacing. Breastfeeding women have an unmet need for highly effective birth control methods that do not interfere with lactation and that are safe for their infants. The progesterone-releasing vaginal r

Unintentional home-related injuries in the Islamic Republic of Iran: findings from the first year of a national programme.

BACKGROUND: As elsewhere, unintentional injuries are a leading cause of death in Iran, but non-fatal injuries occurring in the home environment have not been analysed. OBJECTIVES: The primary purposes of this study were to describe the pattern of home-related injuries and to obtain incidence rates for their determinants in order to monitor intervention programmes for preventive purposes. METHODS: A surveillance system for home-related injuries in selected rural and urban areas was established for the systematic collection of data. The information obtained covers emergency department visits a

HIV-associated tuberculosis in developing countries: epidemiology and strategies for prevention.

The association between tuberculosis and HIV presents an immediate and grave public health and socioeconomic threat, particularly in the developing world. In early 1992 WHO estimated that approximately 4 million people had been infected with both Mycobacterium tuberculosis and HIV since the beginning of the pandemic; 95% of them were in developing countries. The association between tuberculosis and HIV is evident from the high incidence of tuberculosis, estimated at 5-8% per year, among HIV-infected persons, the high HIV seroprevalence among patients with tuberculosis, the high occurrence of t

Prevalence of depression, anxiety, and stress among university students in the post-COVID-19 period: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic has had lasting effects on university students' mental health. While numerous studies have examined depression, anxiety, and stress during the pandemic, the post-pandemic burden of these conditions remains unclear. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to estimate the pooled prevalence of depression, anxiety, and stress among university students during the post-COVID-19 period. METHODS: A systematic search of PubMed, Web of Science, MEDLINE, and Scopus was conducted from inception to August 2025 following PRISMA guidelines (OSF: 10.17605/OSF.IO/S3R2E

Decrease in provider stigma is associated with improved quality health indicators among individuals receiving methadone in primary care centers in Ukraine.

INTRODUCTION: People who inject drugs experience poor health and social outcomes which improve with opioid agonist therapies like methadone, yet provider stigma may influence healthcare utilization. In Ukraine, integrating methadone into primary care centers (PCCs) provides an opportunity to examine provider stigma and its impact on patient outcomes. METHODS: This sub-analysis included patients randomized to receive methadone in PCCs as part of an implementation trial in which the control group received methadone in specialty addiction clinics in Ukraine. Methadone integration in PCCs was sup

Supporting young women's health through girl-friendly drug vendors in Lake Zone, Tanzania: protocol for the AmbassADDOrs for Health cluster-randomised controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Adverse sexual and reproductive health (SRH) outcomes, such as unplanned pregnancies and HIV infection, disproportionately affect adolescent girls and young women (AGYW; aged 15-24 years) in east Africa. Increasing uptake of preventive SRH services via innovative, youth-centred interventions is imperative to addressing disparities in SRH outcomes. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: From 2018 to 2019, we used human-centred design to co-develop a theoretically driven HIV and pregnancy prevention intervention for AGYW at private drug shops called Accredited Drug Dispensing Outlets (ADDOs) in Ta

Exploring factors related to physical activity in cervical dystonia.

BACKGROUND: People with disabilities have reported worse health status than people without disabilities and receiving fewer preventive health services such as counseling around exercise habits. This is noteworthy considering the negative consequences associated with physical inactivity. No research has been conducted on physical activity in cervical dystonia (CD), despite its possible major impact on self-perceived health and disability. Considering the favorable consequences associated with physical activity it is important to know how to promote physical activity behavior in CD. Knowledge of…

Intimate partner sexual and physical violence among women in Togo, West Africa: prevalence, associated factors, and the specific role of HIV infection.

BACKGROUND: A substantial proportion of newly diagnosed HIV infections in sub-Saharan Africa occur within serodiscordant cohabiting heterosexual couples. Intimate partner violence is a major concern for couple-oriented HIV preventive approaches. This study aimed at estimating the prevalence and associated factors of intimate partner physical and sexual violence among HIV-infected and -uninfected women in Togo. We also described the severity and consequences of this violence as well as care-seeking behaviors of women exposed to intimate partner violence. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was c
