Quality of life outcomes in incidental and operated meningiomas (QUALMS): a cross-sectional cohort study.

INTRODUCTION: Few studies have evaluated meningioma patients' longer-term health-related quality of life (HRQoL) following diagnosis and treatment, particularly in those with incidental, actively monitored tumours. METHODS: A single-center, cross-sectional study was completed. Adult patients with surgically managed or actively monitored meningioma with more than five years of follow-up were included. The patient-reported outcome measures RAND SF-36, EORTC QLQ-C30 and QLQ-BN20 were used to evaluate HRQoL. HRQoL scores were compared to normative population data. Outcome determinants were evalua

Cross-cultural adaptation and psychometric validation of the Patient Scar Assessment Questionnaire to the Spanish language in head and neck surgery.

External appearance is the main aesthetic outcome in patients who undergo surgical procedures. Scars located in exposed areas, such as the neck and face, are important for patients. There are at least eight instruments that are used to evaluate postoperative scars, but few fulfil standard methodological conditions. The Patient Scar Assessment Questionnaire (PSAQ) was designed and validated using psychometric methodology. However, this scale has not been translated or validated in the Spanish language. The aim of this study was to undergo a cross-cultural adaptation and psychometric validation

Digital Affective Resilience: A Cross-Sectional Observational Study of Anxiety-Related Chinese Social Media.

BACKGROUND: Anxiety disorders, including phobias, are a growing public health concern, profoundly affecting quality of life. While existing research utilizes text-based and physiological data for detection, a multimodal, ecologically valid understanding of how anxiety is expressed and regulated in natural social contexts remains limited. Social media offers a unique setting for studying spontaneous emotional disclosure and collective coping mechanisms. METHODS: A text-mining study was conducted on 28,349 social media comments related to phobia/anxiety from three Chinese platforms (XiaoHongShu

Acceptability of health-only versus climate-and-health framings in lifestyle-related climate-sensitive health counselling: results of a randomised survey experiment in Germany.

BACKGROUND: Climate-sensitive health counselling (CSHC) delivered by health professionals could promote individual patients and planetary health, particularly within lifestyle counselling. However, health professionals' uncertainty about the acceptability of CSHC remains a barrier to implementation. This study aimed to establish the effects of different topics and framings on patients' acceptability of lifestyle-related CSHC. METHODS: We conducted a randomised survey experiment with a 2 × 3 mixed factorial design embedded in a larger survey in the Health-Related Beliefs and Health Care Experi

An Exploration of the Views and Perspectives of Australian Trans and Gender Diverse Individuals About Transvaginal Ultrasound.

BACKGROUND: Transvaginal ultrasound (TVS) is used routinely in gynecological care in Australia to manage gynecological health concerns. Typically, TVS is well tolerated by patients, with low levels of discomfort reported. Trans and gender diverse people assigned female at birth may experience gender dysphoria or testosterone-related anatomical changes, which could make such intimate examinations physically difficult or emotionally distressing. However, to date, no studies have considered the impact of gender identity on individuals' experiences of TVS. To fill this research gap, we explored th

Anatomy and Pathology of Anterior and Lateral Hip Compartments Bursae: An Ultrasound Structured Approach in Sports Medicine.

When assessing hip pain in athletes, it is important to focus on the extra-articular soft tissues that may clinically mimic joint pathology. One such extra-articular structure is the synovial bursa. Bursitis can clinically be misdiagnosed as joint-, tendon- or muscle-related pain. These pathological processes are a result of inflammation that is often secondary to acute trauma, overuse injuries, arthritis, or infection. Traumatic and overuse hip bursitis occur frequently in amateur and professional athletes and clinical presentation is often nonspecific. After clinical assessment, imaging play

Comparing Self-Administered Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (S-OPAT) with Alternative Delivery Models: Risk Factors for Treatment Failure and Complications in a UK Cohort.

Self-administered outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (S-OPAT) is an increasingly recognised antimicrobial delivery model, yet comparative evidence on its safety and effectiveness remains limited. We compared clinical outcomes across OPAT delivery models and examined predictors of adverse outcomes in S-OPAT. Adult OPAT episodes at a large UK teaching hospital (January 2023-January 2026) were categorised as S-OPAT, healthcare professional home-administered (H-OPAT), or clinic-based (C-OPAT). Primary outcomes were treatment failure, complications, and 30-day unplanned hospitalisation. Ou

Ischemic Stroke Occurring After Supraventricular Dysrhythmia Conversion With Carotid Massage: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND: Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) is commonly managed with vagal maneuvers, including carotid sinus massage, as first-line therapy. If unsuccessful, pharmacological treatment with adenosine is recommended. However, concerns regarding the safety and efficacy of carotid sinus massage have been raised after previous case reports have described ischemic stroke following its use. CASE REPORT: A 67-year-old woman presented with acute chest pain, dizziness, and palpitations. She had a heart rate of 234 bpm prehospital but was hemodynamically stable on arrival. SVT was suspected; initial

A qualitative study to understand the challenges of conducting randomised controlled trials of complex interventions in metastatic colorectal cancer.

BACKGROUND: The use of interventions such as major liver and lung resection, radiofrequency ablation and transarterial chemoembolization in the management of metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) is now relatively commonplace in clinical practice. However, the evidence base regarding these treatments is limited with a lack of high-quality data from randomised controlled trials (RCTs). The aim of this study was to understand the challenges associated with conducting RCTs in advanced mCRC and to identify potential strategies to overcome them, with a view to improving trial design and delivery in t

[Practice guideline on the prevention and treatment of central line associated bloodstream infection in 2025].

Central line associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) is the most severe complication of indwelling intravascular catheters and one of the most common causes of intensive care unit (ICU)- or hospital-acquired infections. Once CLABSI occurs, it significantly increases the risk of mortality, long of hospital stay, and healthcare economic burden. In recent years, multiple large-scale clinical studies on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of CLABSI have been completed, providing evidence-based medical support for related practices. Additionally, evolving global trends in antibiotic resistan
