The effect of nitrate on the reduction of TCE by commercial granular iron was investigated in column experiments designed to allow for the in situ monitoring of the iron surface film with Raman spectroscopy. Three column experiments were conducted; one with an influent solution of 100 mg/l nitrate+1.5 mg/l TCE, and two control columns, one saturated directly with 100 mg/l nitrate solution, the other pre-treated with Millipore water prior to the introduction of a 100 mg/l nitrate solution. A novel method is developed for the extraction separation of thallium(III) from salicylate medium with n-octylaniline dissolved in toluene as an extractant. A method for the determination of methanol and fusel oils in alcohol beverages using headspace solid-phase microextraction and gas chromatography (HS-SPME-GC) is presented. The feasibility of treating underground water contaminated by a chlorinated organic compound with bimetallics Fe/ Ni, Zn/Ni and Zn single metal was studied. Column tests to simulate a reactive permeable wall in a funnel-and-gate system were used. Investigation on the degradability of tetrachloroethene was performed using fresh and mechanically-biologically pretreated household waste. The corresponding metabolites were determined and the experimental conditions were characterized by the concentrations of methane, organic acids, sulfate and nitrate as well as by pH and redox potential. The influence of the amount of water dissolved in dichloromethane on the chromatographic separation of herbicides was studied. Lysozyme is an antimicrobial enzyme present in animal secretions with applications in food, pharmaceutical, and biotechnological industries. This study purified and characterized lysozyme from Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) mucus as a sustainable alternative source and evaluated its antimicrobial activity. Purification via crystallization and ultrafiltration yielded 40.4% recovery and 352.86 U/mg activity.
