BACKGROUND: Rising rates of antibiotic resistance pose a major challenge in the treatment of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection. Current treatment guidelines emphasize the importance of acquiring local resistance data to select an effective empirical regimen.
OBJECTIVES: To analyze trends in H. pylori antibiotic resistance over two decades in Israel.
METHODS: Data from Clalit Health Services for H. pylori isolates cultured from gastric biopsies between January 2007 and December 2023 were included. Susceptibility to clarithromycin, amoxicillin, metronidazole, tetracycline, and levoflox

Proteus mirabilis is a foodborne and environmental pathogen causing catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) with antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and virulence. As the potential of Indian strains remains underexplored, whole-genome sequence (WGS) data of 18 strains were analyzed for AMR, virulence, and genetic relatedness. The disc diffusion method assessed phenotypic AMR. Genomic DNA sequencing was performed on Illumina MiSeq platform, followed by quality control, read assembly, gap closure, and annotation using software tools. Various tools were used to predict antimicrobial resi

Chlortetracycline hydrochloride (CTC) is a broad-spectrum tetracycline antibiotic used to prevent or resist different bacterial infections. However, due to its poor aqueous stability and physicochemical instability, its clinical development is limited. To improve such properties, CTC complexation with β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and 2-hydroxypropanol-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD) was performed using different preparation techniques (Freeze drying and ball milling). Inclusion complexes were comprehensively characterized using different analytical techniques and showed different properties distinct to pure

Background/Objectives: Despite a significant reduction in diphtheria incidence and mortality due to vaccination, antitoxin therapy and antibiotic treatments, a concerning resurgence is occurring in Europe. Resistance to penicillins and macrolides is emerging, resulting in a growing challenge for diphtheria management. This retrospective study aims to evaluate and compare antibiotic susceptibilities of both toxigenic Corynebacterium diphtheriae and C. ulcerans. Methods: Susceptibilities were assessed using broth microdilution-the gold standard-disk diffusion and the gradient method, and analyze

BACKGROUND: The main objective of periodontal treatment is to stop the progression of periodontal disease. Controlled-release drugs yield promising outcomes when conventional treatment is proven to be insufficient in establishing periodontal health in chronic periodontitis. A low-dose controlled-release delivery method for the treatment of periodontal infection was attempted to be developed in this study. With effective electrospinning, a novel sustained-release medication system including polycaprolactone (PCL) nanofibers containing Ashvakatri (A2) and Tetracycline (TET) was accessed clinical

PURPOSE: The in vivo role of RPE cells in ocular toxoplasmosis is poorly understood. Toxoplasma gondii activates Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) to avoid autophagic killing. We examined the in vivo role of RPE using mice with dominant negative (DN) EGFR in RPE. We examined whether EGFR blockade in RPE increased resistance to ocular toxoplasmosis, induced autophagy-dependent killing of T. gondii, and modulated retinal invasion by T. gondii.
METHODS: We bred mice expressing tetracycline-repressible transactivator under the control of MART-1 (RPE promotor) with mice expressing the tetrac

INTRODUCTION: Neisseria gonorrhoeae, an important pathogen of sexually transmitted infections, is resistant to all recommended antimicrobial agents, penicillins, tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones, oral third-generation cephalosporins and macrolides. Antimicrobial susceptibility surveillance of N. gonorrhoeae is needed to identify trends in its antimicrobial resistance. The fourth nationwide antimicrobial susceptibility surveillance of N. gonorrhoeae isolated from male urethritis was conducted by the Surveillance Committee of the Japanese Society of Infectious Diseases, the Japanese Society for C…

BACKGROUND: Streptococcus agalactiae (Group B Streptococcus, GBS) is a leading cause of neonatal sepsis in high-income countries. While intrapartum antibiotic screening reduces this risk, increasing resistance to macrolides and lincosamides in Europe since the 1990s has limited therapeutic options for penicillin-allergic patients. Reports of reduced beta-lactam susceptibility in GBS further emphasise the need for robust antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance. However, broth microdilution (BMD) methods are unsuitable for large-scale antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST).

Campylobacter enteritis is the most common bacterial foodborne disease in humans. Long-term use of antibiotics in chicken production may result in antimicrobial resistance in Campylobacter strains. Information on the antimicrobial resistance profile of Campylobacter species among free-range chickens in Ethiopia is scarce. Hence, this study aimed to determine the prevalence and antimicrobial resistance of Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli among free-range chickens in Amhara National Regional state, northwest Ethiopia from November 1, 2022 to April 30, 2023. Cloacal swabs were collecte

Earlier studies have validated the isolation of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing Salmonella (ESBL-Sal) strains from food. While poultry is recognized as a reservoir for Salmonella contamination, pertinent data regarding ESBL-Sal remains limited. Consequently, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has isolated Salmonella spp. from retail meat and evaluated their antibiotic susceptibility and genetic characteristics via whole-genome sequencing. To further elucidate these aspects, this study investigates the prevalence, antibiotic resistance profiles, genomic characteristics, and homolog

Constructed wetlands (CWs) have been proven to effectively remove antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) at different experimental scales; however, there is still a lack of researches on the removal and monitoring of ARGs during the actual operation of full-scale CWs. To fill this gap, this study selected the Annan constructed wetland in Beijing as a case study and utilized quantitative sequencing, metagenomic analysis, and other technical methods to determine characteristics of ARGs in CWs during different operating periods. Furthermore, we analysed the overall removal characteristics of ARGs in

Numerous antibiotics have been detected in aquatic ecosystems and induced severe toxic effects on aquatic organisms. However, mechanisms of … ractions (ΔGnonpolar) were the main driving energy for the biometabolism capability of antibiotics. Tetracyclines are the most readily biometabolized, whereas sulfonamides are more difficult to biometabolize due to their low binding capacity and low reactivity.
