A mass involving the maxilla of a cow was determined to be an osteosarcoma. Microscopically, the mass was composed of plump pyriform cells aligned along thin trabeculae of osteoid. Osteosarcoma rarely develops in large animal species, but when it does, it is usually found in the skull and must be differentiated from more common diseases, such as actinomycosis and tooth abscesses.

A case of progressive systemic sclerosis (PSS) is described in which painful bone resorption of both upper arms occurred. Computerized tomographic examination revealed cortical thinning with periosteal new bone formation, and pathologic examination revealed only a healing, fibrotic lesion. The cause of this rare occurrence in PSS remains unknown.

The case is presented of a primigravid patient with spontaneous rupture of a bicornuate uterus associated with significant anaerobic infection. Thinning of the myometrium at the site of the rupture was noted in the pathologic specimen. The anaerobic infection, primarily contained in the intact amniotic sac, resolved with total abdominal hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, pelvic drainage and antibiotic therapy.

Closure of minor defects in the hard palate can be done with local flaps. There is often a risk of perforation of the reconstructed area. In the case reported this complication was obvious due to a large, thin, flap-covered area. In strengthening the reconstruction fascia lata and Surgicel was used. The postoperative result was excellent and the rehabilitation of the patient was without complications.

An electron microscope study of the nuclear membrane of Amoeba proteus by thin sectioning techniques has revealed an ultrastructure in the outer layer of the membrane that is homologous to the pores and annuli observed in the nuclear membranes of many other cell types studied by these techniques. An inner honeycombed layer apparently unique to Amoeba proteus is also described.

The aim of cross-linking therapy is to prevent keratoconus progression and stabilize the present refractive situation. A 41-year-old man was treated with collagen cross-linking in one eye. Postoperatively there were a diffuse subepithelial opacification and a paracentral corneal thinning. This superficial scarring in the sense of a "haze" disappeared only gradually despite intensive therapy.

Magnetic resonance imaging in neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis (NCL) demonstrates cerebral and cerebellar atrophy, T2-hyperintensity of the lobar white matter and thinning of the cerebral cortex. The association of these findings, although non specific, can be observed in all the different forms of NCL, narrows the differential diagnosis of the infantile progressive encephalopathies and may suggest the diagnosis.

I suggest that the location of the cone in keratoconus is most often located in the paracentral inferonasal quadrant of the cornea due to the presence of the most senile epithelial cells in this location. These cells may be more vulnerable than younger epithelial cells to the chronic subtle trauma of eyelid rubbing and may be more prone to release enzymes that thin the cornea.

Young and Simpson in 1987 and Fryns and Moerman in 1988 each reported a case of a new unknown syndrome with hypothyroidism, severe global retardation, and abnormal facies, including microcephaly, blepharophimosis, bulbous nose, thin upper lip, low set ears, and micrognathia. A male infant with a similar pattern of malformations and postaxial polydactyly is reported here.

Postpalatoplasty fistulas were closed by free tongue composite grafts. Based on this experience, sharply dissected, thin hinge flaps and the fixation of the grafts are considered the vital points. If carefully executed, this procedure is safe and produces good results in closing small fistulas of the hard palate. Operative procedures are described and 2 representative cases are discussed.

Intravascular adenomyosis was discovered in a cynomolgus macaque, a previously unreported presentation of adenomyosis in non-human primates that points to vascular involvement in adenomyosis etiology. Uterus gross exam was unremarkable, but histologic examination revealed multifocal endometrial tissue intimately associated with large thin-walled myometrial vessels and surrounded by CD31 immunopositive endothelium.

Cardiac bronchogenic cysts are rare lesions with very thin walls. We present a case of a 49-year-old man with intermittent chest pain and distress who was found to have a bronchogenic cyst in the right ventricle with complex tissue changes. The clinical manifestations, image findings, and differential diagnoses of bronchogenic cysts are discussed.

Two cases of posttraumatic pulmonary pseudocyst are reported. The characteristic thin-walled cystic lesions with air-fluid level were demonstrated in both cases by computed tomography but in only one case by conventional chest radiography. It is predicted that more such pseudocysts would be identified by using computed tomography with patients with blunt chest trauma.

We have found the perineal artery axial flap to be useful in reconstruction of moderate defects of the perineum. The experimental surgical technique and clinical applications of the perineal artery axial flap are updated. Our experience with 10 patients over the past 5 years is reviewed. The advantages of this flap are that it is thin and the donor site morbidity is minimal.

The radial forearm flap is a thin, pliable, and well-vascularized fasciocutaneous flap. The forearm flap is, in selected cases, along with the pediculated regional and distant musculocutaneous flaps, a versatile method for pharyngeal reconstruction. We describe the use of the flap in nine clinical cases of hypopharyngeal stenosis and fistulas. The advantages of this method for hypopharyngeal reconstruction are presented.

Nail changes with thyroid disease have not been well studied. Nail findings are helpful in early diagnosis of thyroid disorders and therefore are important for dermatologist education. We reviewed the literature on nail changes in thyroid patients and found that onycholysis and slow-growing, thin nails are associated with hypothyroidism and that onycholysis, koilonychia, and brittle nails changes are associated with hyperthyroidism.
