BACKGROUND: Porphyria Cutanea Tarda (PCT) is the most common form of porphyria. It is characterised by lowered activity of uroporphyrinogen decarboxylase. It seems possible that the hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection triggers the symptoms of PCT.
