Sleep Apnea Hypopnea Syndrome (SAHS) is a prevalent sleep disorder associated with substantial health risks, highlighting the need for improved public awareness. This cross-sectional analysis systematically evaluated the quality of SAHS-related videos on YouTube, Bilibili, and TikTok. Of 903 videos initially identified, 227 met the inclusion criteria for analysis. Cross-platform comparisons revealed that long-form platforms hosted higher-quality content, whereas short-form platforms generated greater engagement despite lower informational integrity. This study reveals a structural disconnect b…

BACKGROUND: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common sleep-related breathing disorder that is linked to cardiovascular, metabolic, and neurocognitive complications. However, its diagnosis relies on polysomnography, which is complex and resource-intensive, leading to frequent underdiagnosis. Emerging evidence suggests that accelerated biological aging may contribute to OSA pathophysiology, but systematic assessments using biological age metrics are limited.
METHODS: Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) were analyzed to evaluate associations between biologica…

PURPOSE: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) affects nearly 1 billion people worldwide and is associated with significant cardiometabolic, neurocognitive, and psychosocial consequences. Gender differences in symptom presentation may contribute to underdiagnosis and unmet needs, particularly among women. This study aimed to assess gender-specific differences in the psychosocial burden of OSA using the Sleep Health Inquiries on Needs and Emotions (SHINE) survey.
METHODS: The SHINE survey was conducted in 2024 among 1,500 U.S. adults with self-reported OSA. Participants completed validated items acros…

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is an independent risk factor for hypertension (HTN) worldwide; however, OSA-related HTN is frequently overlooked in clinical practice, partly because of the limitations of traditional clinical blood pressure measurements. Our study aimed to develop an interpretable machine learning model for identifying HTN status among patients with OSA. We analyzed data from 1771 diagnosed OSA patients and randomly split them into a training set (70%) and a testing set (30%). Using LASSO regression and the Boruta algorithm, we identified seven key predictors for prevalent HTN s…

This study examined the effects of nasal and oral breathing routes on genioglossus electromyographic activity (EMG), inspiratory (nadir) epiglottic pressures, and the pressure-dependent reflex regulation of inspiratory genioglossus EMG in awake supine participants. We hypothesized that oral breathing reduces negative pharyngeal pressure swings during inspiration and, via a pressure-dependent reflex mechanism, reduces phasic inspiratory genioglossus EMG. Twenty participants with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and 8 people without OSA were recruited into this study. Measurements included multiuni…

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is common and strongly linked with systemic hypertension, including resistant and nocturnal forms. Traditional OSA therapies lead to modest blood pressure (BP) reductions, but optimal antihypertensive strategies in this population remain unclear. This review examines OSA driven hypertension mechanisms, differential responses to standard OSA therapies, and evaluates evidence for mineralocorticoid-targeted treatment - including blockade of aldosterone - as a tailored BP lowering and airway improving strategy.
RECENT FINDINGS: OSA promotes hyperte…

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is associated with increased cerebrovascular disease, but acute intracranial dynamics during obstructive events remain uncertain. We hypothesized that negative intrathoracic pressure elevates intracranial pressure (ICP) by increasing central venous pressure (CVP) and impairing cerebral venous outflow. In an anesthetized porcine model, we measured ICP during simulated OSA with intermittent negative airway pressure (INAP) or positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) under controlled blood gas conditions. INAP consistently produced post-apneic ICP surges (+10 mmHg) tha…

However, whether OSAS increases the risk of diabetic retinopathy (DR) remains uncertain. This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the longitudinal association between OSAS and the risk of incident DR in patients with diabetes.
METHODS: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Wanfang Data, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure were searched from inception to April 13, 2026. Prospective and retro…
