DESIGN: The genotype of IGF-2 was determined in 25 freshly isolated synovial tissue samples with signs of active inflammation by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and restriction fragment length polymorphism. Twenty autologous stem cell transplant recipients were vaccinated with three doses of Diphtheria-Tetanus-Poliomyelitis vaccine and conjugated Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) vaccine. Pneumococcal vaccination consisted of two doses of conjugated vaccine followed by a single dose of polysaccharide vaccine, at 6, 8 and 14 months after transplantation, respectively. We have determined the number of circulating T, B and natural killer cells in renal transplant recipients in order to detect changes during cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections. Serial blood samples were taken from 61 patients on standard triple immunosuppression therapy (cyclosporin A, azathioprine and prednisone).
