No exact and digital diagnostic methods for depression have been found. In this study, we prepared a 5-HT biosensor based on screen-printed electrode and applied it to a rat depression model caused by chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS). During CUMS, the blood 5-HT and the depression behavior of the depressed rats and the rats treated by antidepressants were recorded. We report on trypsin-stabilized fluorescent gold nanoclusters (Au NCs) for the sensitive and selective detection of Hg(2+) ions. The Au NCs have an average size of 1 nm and show a red emission at 645 nm. The photostable properties of the trypsin-stabilized Au NCs were examined, and their photochemical stability was found to be similar to that of CdSe quantum dots. The applicability of poly(acrylamide) grafted onto cross-linked poly(4-vinyl pyridine) (P4-VP-g-PAm) has been investigated for the separation, preconcentration and speciation of Hg(II) and MeHg(I). In batch experiments, Hg(II) was quantitatively retained (≥95%) in the pH range of 1.0-8.0, whereas the sorption of MeHg(I) was insignificant in the pH range of 1.0-2.0. This paper describes a new method for the rapid and sensitive analysis of atrazine and simazine based on the dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction with carbon tetrachloride and methanol as the extraction solvent and disperser solvent. The simultaneous LC/MS analyses of hexachlorobenzene (HCB) and pentachlorophenol (PCP), two dioxin precursors were studied by both atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI) and atmospheric pressure photoionization mass spectrometry (APPI/MS). The optimum LC/MS conditions of the simultaneous analysis were determined for these two compounds with different polarity. Ionization by APPI was found to be more effective than by APCI, and is thus a better ionization method for analysis of the two compounds. Using LC/APPI/MS we can achieve the simultaneous analysis of HCB and PCP at ppb levels.

A selective pressurized liquid extraction procedure (SPLE) was developed for a fast determination of polychlorinated biphenyls in sediment. The final method was performed at 100 degrees C with heptane/dichloromethane (90:10, v/v) as extraction solvent for 2x5 min. Sulfuric acid impregnated silica was placed downstream of the sample in the extraction cell to remove interfering components. This simultaneous extraction/clean-up was performed in 20 min, with an average congener recovery of 92% compared to a classical 24 h Soxhlet methodology and 2 h of external manual clean-up.
