BACKGROUND: In 2018, the right to lawful abortion in the Republic of Ireland significantly expanded, and service provision commenced on 1 January, 2019. Community provision of early medical abortion to 9 weeks plus 6 days gestation delivered by General Practitioners constitutes the backbone of the Irish abortion policy implementation. INTRODUCTION: This study describes the characteristics of hand trauma treated in community-based emergency centers (CBECs) in Israel. It was hypothesized that the rate of hand trauma, as well as patient and injury characteristics, would differ from a recent study of patients treated in hospital emergency departments (EDs) in Jerusalem.

A 70-year-old healthy woman came to our hospital with right index finger pain and swelling after an injury incurred due to a commercial dishwasher. X-ray of the hand showed osteolysis around the distal interphalangeal joint. A further examination revealed Pseudomonas aeruginosa in the unexposed pus, so the patient was treated with a total of 10 weeks of cefepime, followed by levofloxacin and debridement twice. While this may have been a case of bacterial replacement, we should still consider P. aeruginosa infection in healthy adults when faced with an episode of waterborne injury.

AIM: To assess the prevalence of intestinal helminth infections and associated risk factors among people living in urban slums in Bangladesh.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted across three clusters: Dhaka, Sylhet and Chattogram. In total, 360 individuals divided into two groups (school-aged children and adults) provided stool samples and completed a semi-structured questionnaire. Parasitological assessment was performed using the formol-ether concentration technique.
RESULTS: Overall, 31.7% (114/360) of participants had helminthiasis, with 13.3% (48/360) having mixed infections.

Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) results for ganciclovir in 12 different treatment episodes showed large intraindividual and interindividual variabilities in the trough concentration and area under the 24-hour concentration-time curve (AUC24). Despite adequate valganciclovir dosing, subtherapeutic concentrations were found in 30% of the treatment episodes. A decrease in viral load was observed regardless of subtherapeutic exposure. These findings show the need for target concentration evaluation and assessment of the applicability of ganciclovir TDM in children.

OBJECTIVE: We carry out an analysis of the bacteremia diagnosed in the Emergency Department during 2020, coinciding with the period of the pandemic.
METHODS: We performed a retrospective analysis from March 4, 2020 to December 31, 2020.
RESULTS: The number of patients who went to the Emergency Department during the study period and the number of extracted blood cultures decreased by 46.79% and 35.7% compared to the same period in 2019 (p <0.05). 320 bacteremia occurred while 507 occurred in 2019, assuming a decrease of 36.8% (p <0.05). We recently carried out a metagenomic study to determine the fecal virome of infants during their first year of life in a semirural community in Mexico. A total of 97 stool samples from nine children were collected starting 2 weeks after birth and monthly thereafter until 12 months of age.
