Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic autoimmune disease that is characterized by chronic synovial inflammation. Patients with RA have increased risk of infection; this is related to RA itself or the adverse effects of medication. In this report, we describe a case of emphysematous pyelonephritis in a patient with RA associated with AA amyloidosis and steroid-induced diabetes mellitus who was taking corticosteroid and low-dose methotrexate.

Neuromeningeal cryptococcosis is a serious infection witch occurs essentially in immunodepressed patients and especially AIDS patients. We report 22 cases of cryptococcosis meningitis confirmed by the parasitology laboratory, in the Tunis Rabta hospital, over a 16-year period. Sixteen patients were HIV infected and six were not HIV infected. The clinical examination documented fever and headache as well as focal neurological signs especially in HIV infected patients. The mycological examination of CSF proved the diagnosis of neuromeningeal cryptococcosis in all cases. The first line treatment

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) has been reported as a severe opportunistic infection in immunocompromised patients without neutropenia or cancer. Patients with antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody associated vasculitis (AAV) with immunosuppressive treatment are susceptible to IPA, but only few cases were reported in the literature. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic inflammatory condition that is frequently treated with immunomodulators. Previous work has demonstrated an increased risk for abnormal cervical cytology in women treated with chronic immunosuppression, due mainly to human papillomavirus. This review summarizes the data known for this relationship in women with IBD, and management strategies for patients found to have abnormal cervical cytology.

OBJECTIVES: The safety and concentration-dependent pharmacodynamic characteristics of the echinocandins make them ideal candidates for dosage escalation in the treatment of aspergillosis. We report on an HIV-negative but immunocompromised patient with disseminated acanthamoebiasis, granulomatous, amoebic encephalitis and underlying miliary tuberculosis and tuberculous meningitis. Cardiac mucormycosis is an exceedingly rare condition. This case report describes mucormycosis endocarditis in an immunocompromised patient with ulcerative colitis. His condition was further complicated by multiple septic emboli to the lungs.
