Compound Kushen Injection Mitigates Radiation-Induced Pulmonary Fibrosis by Restoring AT2 Cell Stemness and Alveolar Regenerative Capacity.

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether radiation directly compromises AT2 cell stemness through oxidative and DNA damage, and to evaluate whether Compound Kushen Injection (CKI) protects AT2 cells, restores alveolar regeneration, and mitigates radiation-induced pulmonary fibrosis. METHODS: Mice were randomly assigned to a control, irradiated model, or CKI-treated group. CKI (4 mL·kg-1·d-1) was administered intraperitoneally from 3 days before irradiation until the designated endpoints. A thoracic irradiation plus left pneumonectomy model was established to mimic clinical scenarios requiring postoper

Taohe Chengqi Decoction ameliorates APID-related local uterine inflammatory injury through modulation of inflammation, oxidative stress, and JNK/p38 MAPK-NF-κB-related signaling.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Taohe Chengqi Decoction (THCQD), a classical formula from Shang Han Lun, is traditionally used to clear heat, purge accumulation, activate blood circulation, and dispel blood stasis in lower-jiao blood accumulation and gynecological stasis-heat disorders. Acute pelvic inflammatory disease (APID) frequently affects the upper female reproductive tract during reproductive age, and its acute-stage uterine injury is closely linked to inflammatory imbalance, oxidative stress, and local tissue damage. Therefore, evaluating THCQD in an experimental model of APID-related

SARS-CoV-2 and Cancer Biology: Exploring the Mechanistic Links.

BACKGROUND: Five years after the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 and the declaration of the COVID-19 pandemic, the long-term implications of COVID-19 for cancer biology remain incompletely understood. Beyond the major disruptions in cancer screening, diagnosis, and treatment observed worldwide, increasing attention has focused on whether SARS-CoV-2 infection and post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (Long COVID) may induce persistent biological alterations relevant to tumor progression or recurrence. RECENT FINDINGS: Current evidence does not support SARS-CoV-2 as a classical oncogenic virus or demonstrate

The Dual-Faceted Role of Metal-Based Nanomaterials in Hepatic Fibrosis Therapy.

Hepatic fibrosis represents a pivotal transitional stage between hepatitis and cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma, predominantly mediated by hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) activation, dysregulated extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition, and oxidative stress. Metal-based nanomaterials (MNMs) exhibit dualistic effects in liver fibrosis progression, owing to their high specific surface area, tunable morphology, surface functionalization potential, and quantum properties. On the one hand, MNMs hold substantial therapeutic and diagnostic potential: they enable precise targeted drug delivery (passi

Modulation of immune responses by acupuncture at Jing-Well points in neurological disorders: exploring mechanisms and clinical applications in the era of modern electrophysiology.

BACKGROUND: Neurological disorders are increasingly recognized as complex conditions involving extensive neuroimmune dysregulation, chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, autonomic imbalance, and progressive neuronal injury. Emerging evidence suggests that acupuncture, including stimulation at Jing-Well points, may exert immunomodulatory and neuromodulatory effects through interactions with peripheral sensory pathways, autonomic networks, inflammatory signaling cascades, and central nervous system electrophysiology. Recent advances in neuroimaging, electrophysiology, and molecular neuroscienc

The Impact of Microbial Toxins on NRF2 Signaling, Focusing on Stem Cells: Mechanisms and Therapeutic Potential.

INTRODUCTION: NF-E2-related factor 2 (NRF2) is a key transcription factor that regulates antioxidant response element (ARE)-driven genes, protecting cells from oxidative damage. Microbial toxins, through mechanisms, such as oxidative stress induction, can activate or inhibit NRF2 signaling. In stem cells, which are highly sensitive to redox imbalance, NRF2 maintains cellular homeostasis while regulating proliferation, differentiation, and metabolism. However, persistent or dysregulated NRF2 activation by toxins may impair differentiation and promote pathological metabolic reprogramming. This r

Harnessing light and ultrasonic vibration: efficient amphiphilic phthalocyanine-based sensitizers for combined sono-photodynamic therapy of breast cancer.

The heterogeneity and global burden of breast cancer necessitate novel therapeutic strategies to circumvent resistance and mitigate systemic toxicity. Amphiphilic phthalocyanines have emerged as highly effective photosensitizers in photodynamic therapy, uniquely balancing aqueous solubility with lipid membrane affinity to overcome traditional aggregation quenching. By integrating structural features that promote selective subcellular accumulation, these amphiphilic phthalocyanine-based sensitizers significantly amplify targeted oxidative stress when exposed to combined light and ultrasonic sti

Oxidative Stress Causes Mitochondrial and Electrophysiologic Dysfunction to Promote Atrial Fibrillation in Pitx2+/- Mice.

BACKGROUND: The strongest genetic risk factors for atrial fibrillation (AF) are DNA variants on chromosome 4q25 near the transcription factor gene PITX2 (Pitx2:Paired-like homeodomain transcription factor 2). Mice deficient in Pitx2 (Pitx2+/-) have increased AF susceptibility, although the molecular mechanism(s) remains controversial. Pitx2 encodes a transcription factor that activates an antioxidant response to promote cardiac repair. Increased reactive oxygen species causing oxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acids generates reactive lipid dicarbonyl moieties that adduct to proteins and othe

Qualitative exploration of the early experiences of opioid use disorder patients from private clinics after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in five major cities in Ukraine.

INTRODUCTION: Following the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation on 24 February 2022, over 6,000 patients were at risk of potential disruptions in treatment with medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) in Ukraine. Before 2022, privatized MOUD clinics had emerged, partly driven by restrictive governmental policies and practices in state-funded facilities. Nevertheless, scant information exists regarding their operation and the patient's experiences, especially during crises. This study seeks to elucidate the initial lived experiences of patients utilizing private MOUD cli

Assessment of Deterioration Characteristics of Solid Waste-Based Binder-Stabilized Laterite Under Multiple Environmental Factors Based on Micro-Drilling Resistance.

Solid waste-based binder-stabilized laterite is prone to progressive deterioration under multiple coupled environmental factors in practical engineering applications. Conventional compression and direct shear tests fail to accurately characterize the gradient deterioration pattern of stabilized laterite specimens. In this study, a multi-factor test scheme was designed using response surface methodology, with wet-dry cycle number, initial humic acid content, and magnesium sulfate solution concentration selected as environmental factors. Continuous drilling resistance-drilling depth curves of st

Thirty Weeks of Microplastics Exposure Alters Muscle Quality in Grass Carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) Revealed by Transcriptomics and Metabolomics.

Microplastics (MPs) are tiny particles with a diameter of less than 5 mm generated from the breakdown of plastic waste. In recent years, MPs have extensively entered aquatic environments and accumulated in fish tissues, including the intestine, liver, kidney, and muscle. Previous studies have demonstrated that MP exposure can damage fish organs such as the gastrointestinal tract, gills, and liver, and may pose potential health risks to humans through the food chain. However, the toxicological effects of long-term MP exposure on the muscle tissue of grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella), an impo
