Mental health and stigma in persons affected by Hansen's disease and their families in rural Sitapur, India.

Psychological problems are common among persons affected by Hansen's disease, a chronic but treatable disease that remains endemic in India despite available and effective treatment. Stigmatisation can also lead to delayed care-seeking, which can impede eradication efforts and negatively impact the physical and psycho-social wellbeing of the affected person and their family. This study aimed to examine how stigma in society affect the mental health of persons with Hansen's disease and their families in endemic villages of Sitapur, India. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to explore how

General practice chlamydia testing: a qualitative study of staff approaches using behavioural change theory.

BACKGROUND: Chlamydia is the most diagnosed bacterial sexually transmitted infection (STI) in England, but opportunistic testing remains low in general practice despite high prevalence among young people. Attempts to increase testing have been met with little success; therefore, there is a need to explore why rates remain low and how this may be improved. AIM: To explore general practice staff perceptions of opportunistic chlamydia testing, including barriers, facilitators, interventions, and policies, using the Behaviour Change Wheel (BCW). DESIGN & SETTING: Qualitative interviews and focus

Trajectories of severe eating disorders through pregnancy and early motherhood.

BACKGROUND: During pregnancy and early motherhood, risks of relapse and worsening are high for women with a history of eating disorders (EDs), as are adverse sequelae for their babies. However, systematic descriptions of the processes that these women undergo through pregnancy, birth, and early motherhood are lacking, as are good descriptions of the various trajectories these women follow through pregnancy and early motherhood. This study addresses both these knowledge gaps. METHODS: We used a longitudinal research interview design, recruiting a non-clinical sample of 24 women with a history

Exploring the unmet needs and experiences of informal caregivers of patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) receiving haemodialysis - a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Patients with end stage kidney disease (ESKD) receiving haemodialysis experience multiple symptoms, which can present physical and emotional challenges for both patients and their informal caregivers. Caregivers can experience anxiety, depression, and social isolation negatively impacting their overall wellbeing and resulting in caregiver burden. The needs of this group of caregivers have been largely neglected, with little emphasis placed on supportive interventions that might assist and support them in their caring role. AIM: The aim of this study Is to explore the unmet needs a

Factors promoting and impeding efforts to deprescribe antidepressants among nursing home residents with dementia- a process evaluation guided by normalization process theory.

BACKGROUND: Despite recommendations against psychotropic medication in older nursing homes residents with behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD), antidepressants and other psychotropic drugs are still prescribed. We performed a cluster-randomized controlled trial to evaluate the effect of a complex intervention aiming to promote the deprescribing of antidepressants in institutionalized older persons with dementia. To understand the underlying mechanisms of trial outcomes, we conducted a process evaluation exploring the interventions implementation, areas of impact, and contex

Case report: Environmental adjustment for visual hallucinations in dementia with Lewy bodies based on photo assessment of the living environment.

BACKGROUND: Visual hallucinations (VH) are associated with visual prediction error in patients with dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). Given this relationship, environmental adjustments have been suggested, but detailed contents for implementing such environmental adjustments and assessments are poorly documented. This case report preliminarily demonstrates methods for improving VH through our experience with two patients with DLB. We conducted familial interviews to assess the phenomenological features of VH and reviewed photographs of patients' homes to identify the environmental triggers of V

Secondary outcomes of scoliosis surgery in disease-modifying treatment-naïve patients with spinal muscular atrophy type 2 and nonambulant type 3.

INTRODUCTION/AIMS: Available studies on scoliosis surgery in spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) have focused on the primary outcome of the procedure-the correction of the curve-whereas research focusing on secondary outcomes is scarce. We aimed to investigate postsurgical changes in respiratory function, motor function, weight, pain, and satisfaction. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the clinical notes of 32 disease-modifying treatment-naïve patients (26 SMA2, 6 nonambulant SMA3). We also performed investigator-developed phone interviews and conducted a focus group with families on postsurgica

What do spontaneous coronary artery dissection survivors want to support their recovery? a qualitative study.

AIMS: Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is increasingly recognized as an important cause of myocardial infarction predominantly affecting women aged younger than 50 years. There is limited research addressing female and male SCAD survivors' experience of, or requirements for, support post-SCAD. This study explored what SCAD survivors wanted to support recovery. METHODS AND RESULTS: A qualitative study using semi-structured video and telephone interviews. Data were analysed through thematic analysis using the framework approach. We interviewed 20 participants (19 females) with a me

Impact of the Domestic Violence Housing First Model on Survivors' Safety and Housing Stability: 12-Month Findings.

Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a widespread and devastating phenomenon resulting in a myriad of long-term consequences for survivors and their children. IPV victimization not only has negative health and economic consequences, it has also been linked to homelessness and housing instability. In response, the Domestic Violence Housing First (DVHF) model is being used in some domestic violence (DV) agencies to help survivors attain safe and stable housing. The model includes using individualized advocacy and/or flexible funding to help survivors meet these goals. Using a longitudinal, quasi-e
