The 5th edition of the World Health Organization (WHO) classification of tumors of the urinary tract and male genital organs introduced both general and specific changes in structure, classification, and nomenclature. This also applies to rarer tumors and tumor subtypes of the urinary system. Knowledge of these changes is relevant for routine histopathological work. This article provides an overview of the main new features of the rarer tumors and tumor subtypes of the urinary system in the new edition of the WHO classification.

This overview of the Symposium and its organization includes a historical survey of the scientific literature in which the relationship of benzene exposure to the development of aplastic anemia and other bone marrow diseases, including acute myeloid (myelogenous) leukemia, is described. Previous conferences on the health effects of benzene are summarized. The important role of the revised World Health Organization classification of tumors of the hematopoietic and lymphoid tissues in clarifying the specific diseases related to benzene exposure is emphasized.

A rapid method is described for the identification of organisms directly from blood culture broths, using antisera to group specific antigens and various commercially available serological and biochemical reagents. The technique identified clinically significant organisms within 1 to 3 h of a positive signal in the BACTECTM blood culture system. The method is of value in providing more rapid diagnoses and treatment of patients, and could be applied to other blood culture systems.

Distribution and absolute concentration of three kinds of fluoride/fluorine, i.e., free ionic, ionizable, and organic fluorine, in human whole blood and serum were determined. The method is based on low temperature oxygen plasma ashing, acid hydrolysis, gas chromatography using chlorotrimethylsilane, and fluoride ion-specific electrode. To characterize the flora of early postpartum endometritis and the clinical features of women with specific organisms, endometrial cultures for facultative and anaerobic bacteria, genital mycoplasmas, and Chlamydia trachomatis were taken with a triple-lumen sampling device. A method of total body radiometry was used to study iodine metabolism in 47 patients with lepromatous leprosy. Disorders were found in 1/3 of the cases.
