The macrocyclic bisbibenzyl family of natural products are commonly found in liverworts and other bryophytes, though the recent isolation of riccardin C from a primrose extract has demonstrated their existence in higher flowering plants. Each has a core comprising four aromatic rings and two ethano bridges, being derived in Nature from two molecules of lunularin. Sub-classes are distinguished by the connectivity between these lunularin units, while individual natural products are distinguished by the hydroxy- and/or alkoxy-substituents decorating the core structure

OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated tapentadol immediate release (IR) for pain relief following orthopedic bunionectomy surgery.
METHODS: This randomized, double-blind, placebo- and active-controlled, phase III study included patients with moderate-to-severe pain following bunionectomy. Randomized patients (N = 603) received tapentadol IR 50, 75, or 100 mg; oxycodone HCl IR 15 mg; or placebo orally every 4-6 hours over a 72-hour period following bunionectomy. In the present work, the homogeneous wet oxidation (WO) of an oily wastewater (COD approximately 11,000 mg l(-1)), composed mainly of alcohols and phenolic compounds, was studied in a high-pressure agitated autoclave reactor in the temperature range of 180-260 degrees C and oxygen pressure 1 MPa. Temperature was found to have a significant impact on the oxidation of the contaminants in the wastewater. The coordination chemistry of model phenolic ligands (pyrocatechol, salicylic acid, and 2,2'-biphenol) that are able to form respectively five-, six-, or seven-membered rings with titanium(IV) alkoxides is investigated. With pyrocatechol, a polynuclear complex containing 10 Ti atoms was characterized with a not very common doubly bridging mu3-(O,O,O',O') coordination mode. A mixture of 5- and 6-carboxyfluorescein was activated with 1-[3-(dimethylamino)propyl]-3-ethylcarbodiimide hydrochloride in the presence of either N-hydroxysuccinimide or pentafluorophenol to give the corresponding succinimidyl and pentafluorophenyl esters. The regioisomeric mixtures were separated to give the 5- and 6-succinimidyl and pentafluorophenyl active esters in > 98% purity.
