BACKGROUND: This project aimed to provide an organized, sequential, and evidence-supported approach to the pharmacotherapy of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), following the format of previous efforts of the Psychopharmacology Algorithm Project at the Harvard South Shore Program.

BACKGROUND: Well differentiated neuroendocrine tumours (carcinoids), arising from cells of the diffuse neuroendocrine system, represent the most commonly encountered gastric endocrine tumours. Gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GISTs), which stem from interstitial Cajal cells located within the wall of the gastrointestinal tract and have a characteristic immunoreactivity for CD117 (c-kit protein), account for the majority of gastrointestinal mesenchymal neoplasms. Simultaneous occurrence of a GIST with a well differentiated neuroendocrine tumour in the stomach is very rare.

Recent guidelines have recommended the use of aspirin and prasugrel in patients with acute coronary syndromes undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention. BACKGROUND: During the past decade, there has been some progress in the pharmacotherapy of schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder. Current evidence supports the use of various second-generation, or atypical, antipsychotic medications, although few of these agents have been associated with long-term efficacy and tolerability. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of aripiprazole in the treatment of discrete symptoms of irritability associated with autistic disorder, as well as other symptoms captured on the Aberrant Behavior Checklist (ABC).
METHODS: This was a post hoc analysis of data from two 8-week, randomized, double-blind, multicenter trials to evaluate the efficacy of aripiprazole dosed flexibly (2-15 mg/day, n=47) or fixed (5, 10, or 15 mg/day, n = 166) versus placebo (flexibly dosed, n = 51; fixed dose, n = 52). A 41-year-old woman presented with dyspnoea, persistent leucocytosis and eosinophilia for 8 months. High-resolution computed tomography scan and pathology of bronchoalveolar lavage confirmed the diagnosis of hypereosinophilic pneumonitis. The patient was treated with prednisolone (0·5-1 mg/kg/day) for more than 20 weeks under the impression of hypereosinophilic syndrome, but without improvement of leucocytosis and eosinophilia. In a series of studies in SPF and conventional guinea pigs, various adjuvants (larifan, polyoxidonium-PO, natrium thiosulphate-NT, TNF-β and Ribi adjuvant system-RAS) were evaluated for their ability to enhance immune responses to the live brucellosis vaccine, Brucella abortus strain 82-PS (penicillin-sensitive). A patient with t(9;22)-positive chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) developed a resistance to therapy with imatinib mesylate (Glivec) which coincided with the appearance of t(5;6;12) in the same cells with t(9;22) [46,XX,t(5;6;12)(q14?;q21?;q23?),t(9;22)(q34;q11)]. She remains in a continuous chronic phase of CML. This is the first reported instance of karyotype evolution temporally associated, and possibly involved, with the induction of resistance to imatinib mesylate but without any signs of evolution of leukemia toward a more anaplastic and aggressive form.
